Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this? I'm worried that my son might have this, but maybe I'm over thinking.

My son is 6 months old tomorrow. He has been ebf, but we've introduced some solids recently. He passed meconium fine after birth, and stools were regular for about 2 months. Since then he poops about every 1-2 weeks, and has gone about 18 days once. They are always liquid or like a thick gravy consistency. I have seen the doctor several times and nobody had concerns.

The past few days he has been grunting constantly, with his face going red like he's pushing but nothing is happening. It's been almost 12 days since his last bm. Farts like crazy though, and he vomits a lot, always curdled milk. He is not bloated, his tummy is soft and he has never had blood in his stool.

His weight gain has been slow and he is currently below the 2nd centile :(

I would love to hear from anyone with experiences with hirschsprung disease.

I don't have experience with it directly but do know a bit about it.

Going two weeks without a bm even if that's not what's up with him is way too long. In any event, he's undoubtedly experiencing some form of megacolon at this point and that can cripple his gi tract permanently if the reason isn't sorted and resolved. Based on his size malabsorption might be at play as well.

If his regular pediatrician isn't taking your concerns seriously I'd seek a second opinion. If you have the option I don't think it would hurt to skip to finding a specialist altogether.

Listen to your gut. If you think something's wrong absolutely investigate it. You sound pretty concerned and rightfully so!

Thanks for your input. I will be seeing the health center for accurate weight and vaccination tomorrow, so I will see what they say.

Just wanted to update in case anyone else reads this.

After starting solids on a more regular basis, he poops much more frequently and weight gain has picked up a ton. Still never had any hard stools so I'm inclined to think he is just an infrequent pooper. Really had me worried as ds1 is almost a daily pooper, always has been.

Thanks again messica for your input :)
