holiday with LO

I'm going away to Spain on tuesday with a 4 month old so will let you know how i get on. i'm just about to pack and I'm feeling very stressed about it all.

I'm just going to ring the airport and check on the baby milk!

UPDATE- i've just spoken to the Security at the airport and if you take cartons as there bigger than 250ml you will have to open and try them all so it means transferring into bottles. You are allowed to take water in bottles and milk powder but you will have to try the water in front of them.

so does that mean u can take the 200ml cartons and they wont make u open them??

anything over 100ml and you would have to open them. Depending which airport your flying from you can buy milk on the other side of security. I'm flying from leeds/bradford and there isn't any where on the otherside so i'm going to take water in bottles and my milk powder dispenser.

I'm feeling really stressed out about this going on holiday with a baby now hope i
I relax when i get there!!!

i found a couple of good sites with some good advice

https://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/index.shtm
i def feel a little more settled now but still not entirely sure what way i will take formula on the plane as we are on an early morning flight so boots in the airport wont be open for me to just buy a couple of cartons

Sorry to gate crash , but I will also be going on hols in July when Zac will be 9 months old. I am a little stressed over his night time routine ,.. Has anyone any experience with this. Was it hard to get them to go to sleep in the hotel room ( Zac is used to sleep in his own room at 7 ) and when you got home was it a nightmare getting them back into their nighttime routine after being away for 2 weeks ?

Thanks

We took our DS away when he was 5 months old and plan to take baby away when he is 3 months old. I was still BF DS when we went and intend to do the same with LO which means not having to worry about sterilising etc. I didn't take many nappies with us as he had no luggage allowance and just bought out there. As others have said Dodot is Pampers in Spain and we were able to pick them up easily enough. We're a bit braver this time and are planning on taking LO to Florida at 3 months but I'm not worried about it. The one thing I'm doing differently this time and it's because our LO will be younger than DS was is to take his pram with us rather than a lightweight stroller.

U can take the 200ml cartons of milk and they wont open them, we have just got back from France, and took two cartons of aptamil on the flight- we also had milk in a bottle ready for her and we just had to put a bit on our arm and taste. We also took on the flight hand sanitiser, her teething gel, calpol- and all of it was fine.
I did underpack for her- usually when going away in the car i pack just in case outfits, but didnt because of the luggage allowance but we really needed those outfits!!!
We took nappies and wipes, but wish i got them over there so i could pack more of her clothes!
The flights feel so cramped so if u can try and keep a spare seat, have a go!
We flew ryanair and kept the seat free inbetween us. She flew brilliantly, so much to look at, we fed her or gave her a dummy for take off and landing, she didnt seem to be affected at all with the ears popping, she fell asleep with the turbelance!!!
Have a lovely time, be prepared, but remember they do have essentials over there that u could buy if needed or forgotten!

I have been told that formula is of a higher salt content in Majorca than here and can be dangerous to our babies so you must take enough to last the holiday. I plan to pack a tin in my suitcase and buy some cartons once I get through customs to take on the plane with us :) someone suggested for sterilising the bottles just to boil them in a pan of water if you are self catering so think am gonna do that too.

we took our little one to Austria at the same age and my advice is just to go with the flow and you will have a lovely time.

We had just started weaning and took cold water sterliser and milton tablets and that worked absolutely fine. She cried a little on the flight but then went to sleep and that was fine (just ignore anyone who glares at you) and the airport was fine.

useful thread, thanks for the good advice.

We are taking our LO away this year when she will be 6 and a half months old - on a west coast USA road trip. I'm sure we are mad but we did deliberately decide on the USA for two reasons, 1: they speak English and 2: the health care is fantastic (I ended up in hospital on our Honeymoon in New York - best treatment I have ever had!)

I'm also thinking of delaying weaning a little, unless she suddenly decides she really wants to start obviously. I am planning to be giving her tasters of food but keeping to a mainly formula diet until we are past the holiday.

some of the hire companies will hire steam sterilisers so i think ill do that as we are going half board so there wont be any pots or anything like that to do the cold water sterilising:thumbup:
