Hi I am pregnant with my second.

With my DD I was put in the room with the birthing pool which was lucky as they only ha one, but I ended up getting fed up and got out and didn't have the water birth I planned which I kicked myself over for ages because i had a 2nd almost 3rd degree tear which resulted in quite a few stitches!!

I am absolutely determined to have a water birth this time, to be more relaxed and lessen my chances of tearing again.

I am really thinking about hiring a pool and having a home birth, as apart from the tear my last labour was straightforward and only lasted about 6-7 hours.

I love the idea of 100% having the pool, being able to have candles and my choice of music, and the labour being natural and not having that clinical feel to it.

Has anyone done this? If so please give experiences as I want to discuss it with OH and would like to hear what others have to say from experience

Thanks
Xx

I had a home water birth with my first, and will be having another with this baby. My birth story is linked in my signature. What exactly do you want to know? I loved having a homebirth, being in my own space and getting to call the shots (and no getting annoyed with other people on the postnatal ward...), and I think it helped DH be more confident with LO from the beginning. I still tore, but I don't think I would've done had LO not done a little shimmy as his body was emerging - head and shoulders were out, and in the pause before the last contraction to birth him completely he wiggled, and I tore.

You will get more responses possibly on the Home and Natural Birthing section, too.

I say go for it! I planned home water birth but come day was no staff to attend. I had water birth in hospital, i think id take same approach again. Stay mobile until i think ive hit transition then get in pool.

I had a home birth, but not a water birth as I preferred to be on dry land and moving around rather than in water. My birth story is in my signature. I know I found it helpful to read lots of positive home birth stories when I was planning mine. I would say, definitely go for it. Having had a home birth, I couldn't imagine wanting to birth in a hospital now if I didn't have a medical reason to. You might also have a search for the Facebook group, Home Birth Chat Group, which has a much more active home birth community.
