Well where to start!? The birth story of my little man, Alexander, 8lb 9oz, born 11.55pm 13.4.11 :D...

After going what felt like was horribly overdue to 41weeks I went along to my midwife appointment of Tuesday where she gave me a 3rd sweep! Not really expecting it to work I reluctantly agreed to be booked for induction 5 days later if nothing had happened. That afternoon I went for a nice long walk, and around 4pm started having tightenings every 10-15mins! woohoo :D

Tuesday evening, tightenings continued to be irregular but at least every 15mins, so let my midwife know I thought things were happening. She advised I go have a bath, take paracetamol and go to bed to see what happened. Around 1am I couldn't sleep at all as every time I dosed I had a contraction, so I got DH to pop the tens machine on, wonderful invention!

Still didn't really get any sleep but the pain was more managble.

So got to 7am, let midwife know was still contracting, she agreed to cover her clinic, sort a few things out and come and assess me. She arrived around 11am, examined me and I was 4cm :D, as I was coping with the tens and breathing easily she left to do some other antinatel visits and get some food.

Around 4pm, she returned, re-examined and I was 6cm, still coping easily with tens, although by now it had been notched up quite high! We agreed to leave me for a couple of hours and just see what happened, 2 hours later contractions really died off. \tried walking around etc but couldn't really get them back again. On another exam there was no change so agreed to have my waters broken.

This worked fabousily in getting things going again and things became way more intense. Began to struggle with just then tens and wanted to use the pool. However was concerned this would slow contractions again so agreed to another exam, only 7cm!

Decided to try the pool anyway and some gas and air, turned out I was able to fully relax in the pool and things really hotted up! Think before I was subconciosly resisting the contraction pain.

Earlier in the night we'd agreed my mum whos a midwife needed to be the 2nd on call as there was no one else available, although i had previosuly said I didn't want her there, in the end it was the best decision I'd ever made! as i knew she knows what shes talking about i trusted her support fully!

So apparently about 9pm she was called over. When she arrived I had a little wobble emotionally, but then pulled myself together as realised that wasn't going to help!

About 10pm I started involuntary pushing and I heard them talking about a mark on my bum moving up to she baby was coming :D. Kept pushing but no one could see any baby. So they made me get out to check there was no cervix still covering babies head. At this point I really wasn't impressed and didn't know how I was going to get out the pool! somehow I did though and midwife confirmed I was fully dilated :D.

Kept pushing but still no baby, everyone saying I needed to push harder, well I felt like I so was! eventually a little bit of poo came out , everyone said this was a good sign he was coming!

Around 11.30, I felt like his head was close but heard mutterings of we'll give her 5 more mins :S, 5 mins of what went through my head! Long before this I'd dropped the gas and air so was more with it, apart from the pain! Anyway turns out they were considering hospital transfer cos his head just wasn't coming and I was exhausted.

But the mear mention of thinking about an ambulance journey made me find something in myself, I pushed super super hard and at 11.55pm, his head and shoulder appeared sunny side up! no wonder i'd had a job getting him out! with the same contraction the rest of his body came too.

His cord was round his neck too, but this was slipped off quickly and he was put in my arms :cloud9:. We waited for the cord to stop pulsating and then clamped and DH cut it.

I was helped to climb out the pool, had the injection for the placenta and this was delivered about 20mins later, oh the relief!!

As he came so quickly and the wrong way round I am pretty damaged and sore downstairs, v v bruised and tore both labia and posterior wall of vagina :(, at the moment I feel a bit like I;ve done a round in a boxing ring and am struggling to stand or walk, but everytime I look at my little boy he is so so worth it!

Wow, sorry that was so long! well done if you got to the end :D. Alex is now feeding quite well and has a good set of lungs on him!

Here's some pics :D xx
