Hi Ladies,
My daughter Sophia is almost 2 and I had to have her by EMCS after failure to progress, 40 hours labour and she was getting distressed. The recovery of my first section was horrible, everything that could go wrong did. I had a wound infection in 3 places along my scar, one was 3cms deep! I was leaking liquid everywhere and it got to the point where I was bed bound with district nurses dressing and packing my scar. Not a nice experience.
So you must all think Im crazy when I say I have a planned elective csection booked for number 2 in 3 weeks time!
I had to look at the pros and cons of a VBAC and with the additional information that this baby was very large (95th centile) and I decided that a section would be the best option for me and baby. I was overdue with my first by 2 weeks, the labour was horrible, my epidural failed, my daughter became stuck and she was only 7 pounds! and then I had to have a GA during my section as I felt the surgeon cutting me! But I believe that if my daughter got stuck at only 7 pound then this time round my baby who was measured at 7 pound at 32 weeks probably wont fit through this time!

I am happy with my decision however I worry constantly about the recovery after it was so bad first time round and I now have a 2 year old to look after aswell as a newborn and myself! I have been reassured by the consultant that they will use different stitches which should not open up and give me antibiotics by drip straight away to stop any infections. But like many I too also have the dreaded 'apron' from my first and worry that once im home something might lurk beneath like last time... Anyone have a simular experience to me???

So many things going through my head, bless us ladies.... these men get away with all the nasty things!:winkwink:

im in the same boat as you.... kinda lol
i had an emcs with my first and even though i never even had a single contraction, i was up all night having to take my blood sugars every hour so i got apsolutely no sleep whatso ever. come 11am and they said my bloods were getting irratic with the steroids to down to theatre i went. i struggled with the recovery too, i missed lilys first 24 hours as i was so morphined up and soooo tired from no sleep whatso ever, i coudnt stay awake. and the spinal wore off so fast i only got half hour with lily before i was in too much pain to hold her anymore.

ive got a growth scan tomorrow and a meeting with my consultant, im gunna ask if she can book me in for an elective. atleast this was, we know whats happening, we can rest as much as possible before and make sure that everything we want from the csection is made crystal clear to everyone. i want a natural csection so atleast ive got 10 weeks to make sure everyone knows exactly what i want and expect.

i was a st. midwife and from the "watching" point of view, mums who had an elective seem to recover a lot faster than emcs mums.

theres always a risk, but as long as our babies are healthy and happy, im sure wed go through it all over again :)

I'm almost afraid to have another baby because my first EMCS was awful.

That being said I think it would be really good if you could arrange some help now? Someone to help with your toddler, bring you food/drinks, help you get up and sit down, bring baby to you for feeding, etc. Do you have someone near you? If not I'd even consider a postpartum doula. That way you can take it easy at least a little bit

I had a horrible EMCS last time- i had 14 hours of labour and failed ventouse. I bled badly afterwards (lost a couple of litres), had bladder trauma, bled for about 8 weeks after and had an infection which was treated with iv antibiotics and then tablet form at home.Izzy was rescusitated twice, had head injuries from ventouse and was a very high needs newborn because of the injuries on her head, plus blood sugar problems.
This time after debating about vbac or c section i have decided a c section, i want to choose to have one rather than have another emergency.
We dont get to discuss it with the consultant until 36 weeks but I am hoping to get all my fears off my chest and hoping there is a way they can keep the risks down- ie iv antibiotics through the op, keep an eye on bleeding etc

x
