OMG I just dont know what it is but I just dont know where the hell to start with packing my hospital bags.
I mean I have lists and lists from numerous magazines and websites as to what to put in them but I just cant seem to start LOL.
Iv never been good at packing like even when I go on holiday I do it the night before and think aye that will do but obviously this cant be done at the last minute as noone knows when the last minute is and it needs to be dont properly
I know it sounds ridiculous but I just cant seem to go upstairs and do it!!
Maybe its the seriousness of it all and also there is picking the babies clothes and coming home clothes ( how can I decide!! I love ALL the clothes LOL)

i know what you mean, it seems like a daunting task! i broke down my list into all of the stuff i already have, then all of the stuff i needed to buy. next i picked the clothes for myself and baby, then ironed them all, then before i knew it i was packing. break it down into smaller jobs, you don't need to do it all at once. the most important thing is making sure that you have all of the stuff bought - you can always pack last thing if needs be! x

I havent got the faintest idea.

I think, some knicks, bathroom stuff, nighty, and some comfy joggies to wear home. And stuff for baby - nappies, cream, wipe,s and clothes.

Um, dunno what else??

Emma you used the right word there 'daunting'! I think thats what it is lol
I sit there and think to myself for god sake just get on with it! x

my hospital bag - is well its all in the bags i brought the stuff in in a big house moving box lol - i need to pack it all but because i still need to add another nightie and eye lined im reluctant to pack it haha

Well firstly, do you have a large holdall or any idea of what you will be using?

My first items to pack were a dark hand and bath towel and then I just went round the house picking up bits and pieces off the list and throwing them in the random direction of the bag!
There is a good sticky at the top of the threads that lists what to put in and what not to bother with.

I have one large holdall to hold both mine and baby's things, plus my handbag:

1 x hand and 1 x bath towel, dark colours.
Pair of slippers.
2 pairs of socks, black.
10 pairs big pants.
2pks x 10 of maternity pads.
2pks x 10? of Always night pads.
1 nursing bra.
1pk x 40 of breast pads.
3pk cartons of apple juice.
5pk of flapjacks for snacks.
1 x nighty/tshirt for labour.
1 x buttoned nighty for night/feeding.
2 x large cheap tshirts for daytime.
1 x pair black jogging bottoms for daytime.
Toiletry bag with everything in it, travel sized.
5 x baby vests.
5 x baby sleepsuits.
2 x baby hats.
2 x baby socks and scratchmitts.
1 x baby cardigan.
1 x baby blanket.
1 x pack newborn baby nappies.
1pk wipes and 1pk nappy sacks.
Cotton wool.
Poly bags for dirty clothes etc.
Prezzies for other kids from baby plus small baby teddy.
Camera and phone, charged/spare batteries/credit etc.
Magazine and Money.
Hospital notes.

I think that's just about it for me from what I remember is in there! I hope it gives you some idea of what to put in, I've never needed anything else.

And yes! All of that does actually fit into one holdall!

ooh well i find that starting is always the hardest part! once you get up and start something you end up on a roll.. just do all you can from the sofa first :winkwink: x

Just dont over pack.... you wont even use half of it, and unless you live miles and miles away from hospital whoever is with you can bring more supplies if needed after baby is born.

I'm basically just taking changes of clothes, underwear, pads, toiletries - but in moderate amounts not 3000 pairs of knickers and 5000 pads - trust me you wont need them.

Then for baby - a few changes of clothes and nappies, cotton wool/wipes, blanket, hat, mitts.

i know exactly what is goin in my hospital bag... but i'm away at my mums at the moment nd i'm desperate to get home nd get it packed.
i am however very ocd when it comes to organisation... i've planned for every eventuality... nd i have lists... pre-lists / draft lists / proper lists... sad but i love it.

I did mine today coz the midwife told me off on friday for not having it done. Had she not have told me off it prob wouldn't be done still!!! I've had to pack 2 bags, one for me and one for baby as it wouldn't fit into one bag!!! I am packing for 48 hr stay after though so I think that justifies it. Just start at the beginning & work from there. At your stage I was washing everything & ironing it. Why not start there?

I'm in the midst of packing mine. You would have thought I would have learnt when I had to stay overnight at 35 weeks but noooo! :haha:

I've got a large bag for me and changing bag for baby then a mini suitcase on wheels with afterbirth stuff. I have everything now, just need to sort it all out.

It will come together in the end. I was going to pack my bags at 24 weeks when bubs was viable but kept putting it off until now.

I am hoping to not be in more than overnight at the most so was just going to put in a change of clothes and outfit for baby plus nappies/pads/ toiletries etc

I agree, two of my close friends have just given birth one after the other and they both said DO NOT pack boxes of breast pads as you will only use a couple (!) and not to go ott with everything. One said just pack as if you were staying one night, take a couple of pairs of comfy pjs and something loose to birth in. They also said forget the packs of wipes/talc/etc and just take in cotton wool as thats all you'll need. They also said forget i pods and stuff as there is no way in hell that is used when your in pain lol...

I have halved the size of my bag after talking to them lol. Oh and don't take too many baby clothes!! x

Thats true on the breast pads. I was in for a week with my first (he had jaundice that needed treatment) and I didnt need one single breastpad. It was only once we were home a few days that I developed the need for some.

I started to pack my hospital bag yesterday

Although I got to 3 big pairs of black knickers
Black PJ bottoms (i've lost half my clothes they must be in bags still somewhere)
sanitary towels, (last time I couldn't handle waddling around in maternity pads)

10 nappies
Cotton wool
1 complete baby outfit- vest, sleepsuit, hat, mitts oh and a bib

then i got stuck, i haven't washed any baby clothes because i've not wanted to tempt fate, washing machine then decides to stop working

so i'm on hold for a moment!

But it is definately a daunting job!
