Does anyone have experience with IV needles on a baby's head and the special tape? We were in the hospital for monitoring and " to be safe" my baby had a needle put in his head. I was told it is secured with special tape that is removed seamlessly and pain free with solution. We had one like it taped to his head after birth and it was removed without a problem.

Some idiot however taped it wrong and used the wrong tape as well (some thin strips) and it caused injury and trauma to remove it from my babys head. The glue is still stuck and most of his hair was ripped out. It looks bloody and infected. They are now trying to tell me that is normal...which I know it is not.

Does anyone know how to removed glue pain free? Cutting isn't possible as some it stuck to his head/ wound!

Will newborn hair even grow back when pulled out/ cut? He looks mutilated to say the least. Has anyone experienced this where hair was pulled out? Not sure if I should try to remove the glue which seems like it coul cause more pain....or simply buzz the side when healed.

I attached a picture he had full hair and most got yanked out!

I'm so sorry for your and your new bubba. Done correctly none of this trauma should have happened. The area will be bloody from the hair being pulled and also just from the blood that will have leaked from the vein. Bath with plain water and pat dry. Don't use any shampoo or soap. If it continues to weep, bleed or any puss comes out then take him straight to the gp. His hair should grow back but will take a little time. Also, I would write a formal complaint. A small mark is expected but not that bad. Poor little guy. Big hugs for you too xxx

Aww poor little man no advice but my son had one on his head for monitoring in labour and it did not end up looking like that poor baby c

I would guess something oil based would be the best to disolve the glue. I would try almond oil but if you dont have that another oil would do. Maybe try it on a small area first to see if it works?

Thank you! :cry:I hope he heals up quickly. I will write a complaint for sure and have even thought about making it public. I received no apology, on the contrary, the doctors were trying to lie to get away with messing up.:nope::growlmad:

He had one a few weeks prior to that too and it came out without any pain or hair pulled.

I will give coconut oil a try later. I also read it can be mixed with baking soda. Hope it works. It's like someone smeared glue on his head.

Sorry no advice......

I Just wanted to say poor little man

I would go bloody crazy if anyone was to do that to my baby's beautiful hair and his little head.
Definitely write a letter of complaint :hugs:

Thank you  I will not only write a letter of complaint but also shame every single doctor that did us wrong in pregnancy and after in public. Not sure if I will contact a newspaper or pass out flyers..but they will hear from me

Poor little poppet. I have to say though my boy was pretty much the same. he didnt have an iv in his head as he had a central line in his groin (he was on life support) but all of the tape DID rip his hair out regardless of how much solution was used (and it was used every time they had to change tapes). Some of the tapes (even the special ones) stick really badly to newborn skin. My little boys face was red raw from where all his hair had been pulled out (he was VERY hairy everywhere when he was born) and the tape had aggrevated it all.

His proper hair grew back ok. we Used olive oil and baby oil to try and clean excess glue off of his body (face, head, arms, groin and leg). There will be some blood staining from seepage from the iv but most of the red will be because the tape has aggrevated his delicate skin.

Im sorry you've received horrible care but unfortunately when they have to be taped it always runs the risk of this happening. <3

As an infant I had jaundice and had to be put under the "light". This was back in 85'. The nurse went to remove the tape from my eyes which was wrapped halfway around my head on both sides and ripped out all of my hair. 31 years later I have a head full of healthy hair except above my temples. That hair has never grown in. As an adult I cant wear certain hair styles because of it. If the nurse had handled this better I would not be bald on my left and right sides.

There is a special spray that can be used to remove sticky tapes that hospitals use. Definitely complain and don't be fobbed off. Make a formal complaint. Is try coconut oil before anything else (according to my hv you're not meant to use nut based products on new babies due to allergies?). Really hope the hair grows in and that he heals well.
