Housing association?

Hey everyone

Not sure if this is the right place to post but I need some help...
Bit of a long story, but my OH and I are currently living with my parents as we cannot afford to privately rent in this area; we are on the council housing list but are definitely not holding out breath to get anywhere and now I feel like we're a bit stuck I would really like to be out of here and in our own place by the time LO arrives as my parents house is just too small for all of us and we're both starting to go a little crazy!

Anyway, I keep hearing about housing associations but when I tried to look up some information I just got stupidly confused and more frustrated than before! Everywhere just seemed to say you need to go on the council list and go through them? I just don't understand it all

Can anyone help/advise me in any way?

You will need to be on the council list to apply for housing association properties. You can then place a bid on the properties that meet your criteria that are advertised each week. If you are the highest bidder at the end of the week (the one with the most points or in the highest band) then the council will nominate you to the housing association to have that property.

That's basically how it works around here and in most places.
