Hi, can anyone hElp me? What is the monthly limit on your income to claim housing benefit? I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks

Do you have a calculator on your council website? That should give you an amount hun or try entitledto.co.uk if your renting privately you could have a search on local housing allowance site to..sorry not a lot of help but I think they take a lot of things into account when working it out not just your salary

Xx

Thank you :) I should be entitled now but there is talks about back payments was just wondering if they would when I was on 1100pm
Thank you

Talking about Housing Benefit ..... does anyone know if you can get your rent paid even if you are living with your folks? I don't get it. It says that if you live with a relative you can't get housing benefit? But um, thats not fair surely if you actually pay rent to your parents? So.....someone who lives in their own flat and pays e.g £300 pcm gets that paid for by the government, yet if you pay the same amount (still classed as rent surely?) to your parents, you cant get that paid for?

Am I being a bit dull here? Tons of single mothers actually move back in with their family and not all of them live rent free with their family, so why can't that rent money be paid. I mean you can prove it aswell can't you from bank statements??

Total fair point, my interview today they ask who I lived with a d if the home was owned by a close family member. I'm not sure how it works at all. They ask random questions like how Manu bathrooms do you have. I'm not sure if they would rake in the household income rather than seeing you as renting a room. Is so weird. Try ringin seeing what they say x

I agree it's very unfair especially as people get shared acomm allowance which is the same as living with a relative!? Does it have something to do with them owning the property? Xx

I earn about 690pcm and my rent is £675pcm (slightly over the LHA by £25) and receieve £520pcm in HB and CTB. I pay £155 a month towards my rent and £25 a month towards my council tax.

Don't know? bit odd really and no logic to it. Cannot see the difference in a single mum living on her own paying rent and a single mum living with folks paying same amount of rent?? I mean are the gov that stupid that they think something like ' oh well she lives with mum and dad so they help out with other stuff? or that it's a conspiracy and you don't pay rent? My folks are pensioners now, they can't afford to help me out, I'm helping them! lol

Yeah it is :-( but I still don't see logic in that either. The money can be traced and rent is rent surely? this principle applies to a landlord. I pay him rent and it goes towards his mortgage, same thing? And there should be concessions for single mums especially ones that have been left high and dry by FOB.

Bleh it sucks :-(

Hey Hun, you can't claim housing benefit when you live with your parents. (Not in my council at least) I had a complicated time because my Dad technically owns the house I live in - although we rent it from him if that makes sense? So we still pay rent, £795 PM, and that includes no bills or services.

The council tried to tell me I wasn't eligible for any support even though I technically am, because my Dad owns the house I live in. I had to prove with bank statements that I had paid 6 months + rent in the past, and that my Dad wasn't supporting me as I completely support myself. (Im a student)

So you sort of can, but can't... You have to completely prove that you're paying rent, you can't get benefits for 'lodging' with them iykwim? x
