How are you going to toddler proof your Christmas tree?

I am at a loss of how to keep my son away from the Christmas tree this year! He's into everything. What is everyone else doing?

we're putting it int he corner and then putting the couch infront of it touching the walls on either side so he cant get around it!

christmas morning we'll move the couch out the way so he can get to the presents

i was wondering the same thing.. and all i can think of is to tie it to the wall so he will at least not be able to pullt it over haha

I figure I'll be hit by a double whammy! My son will pull the decorations off the tree and my daughter will then crawl/roll over and put them in her mouth!

I'm just resigned to destruction

We have a big tree and a little tree up...I'd hoped that all tHe wooden toy decorations on the little one would provide a distraction...not so!

I'm just putting all the special, glass baubles at the top...and all the indestructible ones at the bottom.

I am hoping it will lose appeal for destruction quite quickly, but it didn't last year

Ally is too young to destroy, but Lizzie is in prime destruction phase!

We put ours up on a table in the corner of the room last yr - it was also blocked off by a sofa so really inaccessible.

We have a separate dining room and intend to keep the tree in there (with a stairgate on the doorway (and the door open).

Did this last year and it worked well. Ok we don't get to look at it all the time, but we get to enjoy Christmas dinner next to it and do look at it when we go past etc.

DS has no impulse/curiosity control and if we put it in the living room, it would be disaster....

Same here, he's pretty good at 'look but no touching!'

Last year we had one outside with lights on, just outside the big patio doors in our living room. We'll probably do the same this year, as both kids are in a fairly dangerous stage. I wrapped fir wreaths round our bannisters with decorations on, which fulfilled my decoration needs. Might get the John lewis paper tree if I can find it...

im guessing nicole will try to climb up our tree. she has no fear and doesnt listen to when i tell her no, she will move away and then sneak back over slowly. im sure the tree will end on the ground alot.

shes already pulled the curtain pole down completely in the front room and the one in our bedroom. maybe i shouldnt let her watch curious george anymore

Last year we only put a small fibre optic tree up. This year I am hoping our 3yr old will understand that if he is naughty and plays with the tree Santa won't visit. . .

OH has declared that we aren't having a tree this year as Esther is a climbing, pulling everything nightmare. However i am in charge of tree buying and decorating so we are sill having one (OH doesn't actually like real christmas trees anyway so it's just his ploy not to have one!)

I've yet to decide what i am definitely doing but it's either going to be raised up on a table, in the corner of the lounge with the sofa and fire-guard blocking it or else outside our french doors. All three we have done before but not sure which is the best at the moment. If i can i will go for a fairly small tree - 4ft. Although i'm sure i said a 3-4ft tree last year and it ended up being about 6ft

We're gonna wait and see how callum reacts to my moms one as she'll put hers up first. I'm hoping he'll just mess with the baubles and tinsel rather then trying to pull it over/climb up it. I don't mind that so much. We did have a real tree last year as callum wasn't even rolling this time last year but are having a fake one for the next couple of years as i don't trust callum with real pine needles! xx

I'm getting one and putting Evey proof decorations at the bottom and my "nicer" ones at the top.. my really nice ones are staying wrapped up and will not be out till she's at least 18 years old!

I'm guessing she'll be fascinated by it at first and will touch it, but then it will become boring (I hope). But how to stop her opening presents that get put underneath it is another matter!

If we have ours on a table - something we quite often do anyway - i have a red table cloth that i put on the table first and this drapes right round - the presents then go under that and last year neither of them realised

Our tree will be in the corner, where it sits every year I have my 2 sofas in an L shape in the corner of our lounge so the tree will sit on the table in that corner. Hopefully Evie wont touch it, but we wont know till we put it up! I was lucky with my first as she would only ever poke the baubles but Evie's alot more headstrong than my first so I could well end up having to pluck her out of the tree numerous times

Thomas is quite good at "look but don't touch" so I'm not actually planning on doing anything different to normal. He's not a climber and is naturally cautious so I think it will be fine.

Callum can be a little monkey when it comes to touching things he knows he shouldn't so I can imagine myself trying to distract him alot!

My LO is going to be a bloody nightmare with our tree, I just know it! I'm not going to put many decorations on it this year, as they'll all end up pulled off and thrown under the couch (where everything else ends up!)
