How are you going to toddler proof your Christmas tree?

We tie it to the wall so if she does pull too hard it won't fall; other than that I'm resigned to reapplying baubles every night after she's gone to bed!!

I am planning on putting breakable baubles higher up, telling her not to touch then crossing my fingers and hoping!! She's quite good at not touching things when she's been asked not to but she is very into climbing at the moment so I guess it could go either way!

I'm not looking forward to it to be honest, but we are going to carry on regardless and have a dustpan and brush handy!. LO gets into and onto everything and when he does get things he throws them everytime!. The more you tell him off the more (and harder) he does it!. Nothing is sacred in this house, I will win regarding the tree though!.

oh my, it is going to be a nightmare! hayden loves shiny things, so he will pull off any baubles he can reach, and try to climb up to get any he can't (although he's not too good at climbing, since he can't even stand unsupported yet, he can pull himself up on stuff, though!) and he is also a thrower, so any he does get his mitts on will be flung about the place! i like the idea of putting it on a table behind the sofa, but our current tree is enormous and we don't have a big or strong enough table, and it would touch the ceiling!!! i am currently lobbying for a new, smaller, tree, though, as it takes up half of the living room. needless to say, hubby bought our current one, and had to get the biggest in the shop :dohh:

i build a train track underneath it and put a battery powered train on it with other train carriages in decorative xmas boxes that are also under the tree, DD always runs over to the tree then sees the little light on the train, drops to floor level and plays with that, by the time she gets up destruction is off her mind and she walks away happily, she usually runs back to it 20-30 mins later but the same thing happens lol! xx

Im tying ours to the wall too, away from the cats aswell!

At the moment I'm not sure where our tree will be going but I do know, that tree decorations wont be anywhere low on the tree. Only half of the tree will be getting decorated. The bottom half will be bare.

Last year I put ours in the playpen (the children would never go in it, so we finally got some use out of it!). Worked a treat, they spent ages looking at it but couldn't get to it until Christmas day when we opened the playpen door and got the presents out!

we put bells on the bottom of the tree so we could tell when he was near it and pput it kinda out of reach in the corner until christmas eve

I'm going to gaffa tape Ozzie to the wall and let him down on the New Years Day.

I haven't even put thought into it yet.. Good thread.. Good ideas... My little man is such an explorer and a bit of a dare devil so wouldn't be surprised if i found him climbing it so i might have to use the gaffa tape too :haha: xx
