My husband and I are having a hell of a time finding a name for our son. It's driving me crazy because I want him to have a name and my husband is just like "Meh whatever" about it. I thought we were using Elliott, then he said no randomly. Then I thought we were using Atlas, and he said no randomly again :dohh:

However we both reeeally love Rowan. It also has that irish connection which would be nice since our daughter's name is Irish. And his middle name will be Risley after hubby's late father, pronounced Rize-lee, and we really love Rowan Risley.

But we are hipsters lol and we really don't want to use a super popular name. I found out there's already another baby Rowan, a girl, in my family and now I'm worried it's more popular than I thought. I'm okay with it not being like rare, but I'd like it to be different... y'know?

So how many Rowan's do you know?

I don't know any! Are you uk or US as that makes a difference.

Not sure Rowan is even in top 100 so it's not common at all.

Nice name too :)

In the US! I just thought it was super weird that there was already one in my family. Not close to them or anything, it's like my grandfather's nephew's son's daughter or something lol

I'm sure one of the U.S. Girls could share the official stats so you can see - but I'm
In the UK and it's certainly not common here x

I've only heard of it once before - on a thirty-something Australian guy. But I see it popping up a lot on these name blogs (especially the UK centered forums) so I think it may seem more familiar than it is. Have you checked out the baby name voyager to see how quickly it's rising?

I had never seen the voyager thing before! So cool! It looks like Rowan is kind of gaining momentum but not anywhere near too popular to use yet. Yay!

I know one little boy called Rowan.
I really really like it x

I know one little boy called Rowan - it's very unusual here. It's a lovely name!!

I don't know any but I think it's a nice name.

Thanks guys! I really hope my husband sticks with this one, I quite like it. It's nowhere near as trendy as Violet is for girls and we considered that one before we knew it was a boy. I just love having a unique name, and I would want my kids to have the same experience. I really really like this name! I wish we had the balls to spell it Ruadhan since we spelled our daughter's name Caoimhe, but the backlash we got for doing that was so intense and hurtful I just don't even want to deal with it again... But Rowan is a pretty spelling too.

My niece is named Rowan. I know it is traditionally a boy's name, but it seems more of a feminine name to me.

I'm in the UK and I know of 2 Rowans, one is an ex colleague's son who is 4 and the other was born the same time as my son to a lady in my antenatal class. I love the name.
