How did you feel after your amniocentesis?

For those of us that have had it done-

How did you feel after? Any cramping? Did baby move any less/more?

How long did you rest for?

I've just had it done this morning and have been advised to rest for 24 hours and that I might get some bleeding, just wondering how it was for everyone else?

I had amnio last friday and I felt well after. My OB did it for me and he did it painless and very carefull.
I rested for 24 hrs. Try not to get up just lay in bed the less you use your stomach muscules the faster you will heal. I didnt get any cramping or any pain after it, no bleeding eather.
I hope you are feeling good too.
Are you in the risk of DS? If yes what are your chances??
My chances went from 1 in 178 to 1 in 4 after doctors could not see nosal bone. I get my FISH results back today. I am so scared....

I had mine at sixteen weeks, so i really wasn't feeling baby at that time at all. my amnio went fine. a little cramping (like pulling around the navel). no blood or leaking amnio. i went to work right away (desk job). i did not rest at all, but I am not that active to start with.

I had mine done today. I had a tiny pinching feeling from where the needle went in, but it went away after a couple of hours. No cramping so far, and its 7 hours later.... We shall see!
However, i did sneeze once and it hurt like hell! i'm scared to sneeze again. They advised 24 hours of rest so i took off from work tomorrow as well, as my job requires me to be up and down a lot!

I finally got the FISH results back and it was the best day of my life!!!! My baby boy is healthy...NO DS!!!!!!

first of all congrats to those of you that got the great results.

i did the amnio test yesterday. i must say it was the worst feeling ever. it didn't hurt or anything. but just the thought of the risk i am taking.......the thought of that a mc is a possibility makes me so sad.

what did your doctors say about mc. when are you in the clear from a mc after the test? my doc said 2 weeks after the test i am in the clear from a mc being caused from the amniocentesis. this because if there is an infection it will take a while for it to show.

how are you all feeling? what was your results from the screening? how old are you? we got 1 in 185. i am 33 years old (will be just 2weeks shy of 34 when giving birth).

i wish everyone good luck. i hope we all get great news and no mc.
it would be so nice to keep in touch with you guys while we wait for the results. as a support.

Bella, I had mine done by a doctor here in NYC who is very well-known. He reassured me to notmworry, that everything will be fine and that nothing will go wrong.... I am hoping he is right, as I am as concerned as you are. I didnt really have any cramping, and am not sure if I have any leakage as I have always had a bit of discharge to begin with. Will you gwt fish results back in a few days? Mine come on monday....
Good luck. In this day and age, the risks are so small, or so they say.

Hi girls. So pleased so many of us have had good results

I had a little bit of cramping and the area has bruised a lot, other than that it has been fine.

I knew there were miscarriage risks before hand but my consultant said if the person performing the amnio knows what they are doing and is practised at it there is close to no risk at all.

We got the first of our results back clear today, waiting on a few more. We had a cleft palate picked up at our 20 week scan and sonographer wasn't happy with the scan overall so we had rescan and amnio so slightly different reason to most having amnio on here.

I know its hard but try not to think about mc. I went through hell myself. After my amnio I didnt experience any pain at all. I went steight to bed and was on the bed rest for over 24 hrs. Try to rest and do not use stomach muscles too much.
After the blood screaning I was at 1 in 178 chance for DS and after US it went up to 1 in 4 because they couldnt see nosal bone of the baby. I must say they can be blind!!!!Every baby is different and can have small noses!!!! My husband has no nose at all...lol..I did punch him in whatever is there because of all the stress he cause me with his genetics...I got my FISH results beck and my baby boy is healthy!!!!See they can be very wrong...They just scare you to death. Sometimes I wonder if this is their main goal is to scare people.
1 in 185 is a small chance!!! think for the best!!! Stay strong!!!!

I havent had the amnio but wanted to say congrats on the good results.

My baby had a nuchal fold reading of 7.2mm at 20 week scan but i refused the amnio. They told me i have a higher risk of miscarriage from the amnio than i do of having a baby with downs.

I suppose i just have to wait it out, but in my heart i know my baby is fine.
