Anyone any tips? I am struggling at the moment. My daughter goes off to sleep whilst nursing during the day. I want to stop breastfeeding as there is practically no milk. I tried evrything to put her down - pram, singing, music, cuddling, etc. She won't have any of it, cries and wants breast. I gave in every time as it's endless crying. She doesn't take dummy so I don't know how to comfort her. At night she goes to sleep with her teddy, but during the day (and now she is also in the nursery some days) it's a struggle. I've heard that you can put something bitter or sour on the nipple to deter them from the breast. Anyone tried this?

I don't have any advice hon as Aisling ended up self weaning but you'll get more answers in the bfing section :flower:

I had similar problem but LO was 4 months old at the time. Dropped two day feeds in a go, replacing them for bottle feeds and went through a phase where bottle feed was followed by a walk with LO in pushchair(where he would fall asleep) until he got into a routine of sleeping after his feeds on his own. (took too long getting coat and shoes on a couple of times and went back to pushchair to find LO was not going to wait for me to get his sleep!!!)
Hope this helps!

Clairefairy, my LO doesn't take the bottle, she started to drink from a cup from 5 months + breast. I've tried giving her bottle but she just starts to play with it.

I dont have much experience as I FF. But when my aunt weaned her son at around 18 mnths she put sth bitter on her breast (a solution they use for kids who suck their thumbs or bite their nails). Once her son tasted it he refused to take it. She spent the night at my place to help her with her son. I took him away frm his mom as he was so restless & she was in pain. The next day he tried to take a suck but again he didnt like it. When she tried to offer him the breast later, he refused. Since then, he didnt ask for it. Good luck hun xx

I am nervous about it and I'm not planning to do it for another 6 months  I don't know if LO will self-wean but I hope so as I wouldn't know how to wean him otherwise!

I swapped feeds for formula in a cup gradually as my ds didn't ever take to bottles. I kept morning and night feeds to last, dropped daytime ones every few days, this was around 9-10 months I think he was down to 3 bfs then 2 then 1 bf only when he got to 12 months, other 2 feeds were formula by that stage
