I had a miscarriage in december at 7 weeks 1 day.. baby stopped growing at 6 weeks 6 days

but now I'm preg straight after and I really want a scan to make sure there is a baby in there with a strong heartbeat..

I called my doctor to schedule an appt and they didnt really say much of anything- just said okay great your appt is weds at 9:30 am..

I feel like I should call back and talk to a nurse and voice my concern so that maybe they can go ahead and book me for a scan.. i just dont want to go in there and have my blood taken and pee in a cup.. I wanna SEE my baby..
am i being ridiculous?
:dohh:

nope, not at all :hugs:

i dont know how it works in the US but this is what i did - when i went to the doctor to inform them of my pregnancy, i told her i was feeling anxious about what was going on in there after having suffered two losses and so in her referral letter to the midwifery team, she requested i have an early scan. then, i contacted my midwife and she arranged a scan for me. Im sure if you say at your appointment that you are very anxious about it they will be happy to organise one for you.

I don't know how it works in the US but in the UK it varies by local care trust. Most places will not scan for reassurance, only due to pain or bleeding before 12 weeks regardless of history but there are differences within the UK. I would give them a call and ask hun, doesn't hurt to :)

here in the US they typically scan you early for dating purposes.. I just had to go back last time I was pregnant 2 weeks after my first appt and get a scan, and I really dont want to wait 2 weeks again!

You should be able to just ask. Explain your worries. I'd call back and ask what is going to happen at your appointment. The receptionists should have a nurse talk to you or call you back and explain to whomever you talk to that you would like to book a scan as well. I don't know if your Dr office will have a machine or if you have to go elsewhere or what your insurance is like or what. They may have to send out a referral to an outside place or something, but really, just call them up and ask to talk to a nurse or the Dr about the details of your appointment.
