Hi all,

39 and trying for my 2nd, my dd is 14 so quite a gap.
Just wondering how I should start?

Should I see my Gp? Do I start charting? Ovulation sticks? Vitamins?

Thank you xx

I went and saw my midwife for a basic exam to get the "all clear" before we started TTC #2.

I am a huge fan of charting (I recommend Fertility Friend, which also has a detailed tutorial on charting all of your signs). I would definitely chart BBT (you'll need a BBT thermometer for it, a regular one won't do) to confirm ovulation, since those of us who are AMA may not always ovulate reliably. OPKs are also handy in giving you some warning as to when you're gearing up to ovulate, so you can get your BD'ing in. :) I like Babii brand, they're about $12 for 50 sticks on Amazon.

At what time of day is it best to take a BBT?

The only reliable temp must be taken at the same time each day, immediately upon waking, before you get up/talk/move around/etc.

Hi Dill,

What does AMA mean?

Good luck Kittykat.
I'm also 39 and trying for my 2nd.

AMA stands for "advanced maternal age," referring to any woman 35 or older.

Hey!! I am also 39 and ttc #2. My DD is 8 years old. I will be 40 in september. I have 3 cycles to try again Femara and if that doesn't happen then i have to think of other options :(

I am checking my bbt every morning and i also have opk's that i will start to use!

Where is everyone in their cycle right now?

I'll be 39 in July and sort of TTC for #2, DD is 12 so big gap here as well! I just like to think that I'll have help haha and that each child will get the benefits of having a sibling and the benefits of being like an only child :)

I just started charting and am using Fertility Friend and taking my temp the same way every morning but I get up to take my temperature so it doesn't bother DH. I think if you do it the same way it should be consistent? I also did a OPK and bought a ferning microscope (I went crazy! lol). I've been taking pre-natals for two months now as they say ideally you should take them 3 months ahead of time. Also cut out caffeine and been trying to eat better.

I tried to get a pre-conception appointment but it sort of just turned into a regular pap and they said if AF comes call so they can count my follicles.. Would like a blood test to test everything and all that, not sure what to do now.. Sorry don't mean to take over your thread with my own questions! haha Hope that helps, good luck!!

It seems like we all are in the same boat. In late 30's and ttc #2 with a large age gap!

I'm finally in the 2 week wait. I'm super irregular and have dealt with cysts and lack of menstruation/ovulation. After a very long cycle, I finally O'd on CD 105. I'm honestly quite worried about O'ing so late. I've read that it's best to O early or at least between CD 15-20 to get a good egg. But I've also read some stories about women who had healthy babies after O'ing very late. Anyway, I think what finally helped me O was a supplement with myo-inositol, D-Chiro-Inositol and vitamin D. After taking it for 3 weeks, I finally jumpstarted my ovaries and O'd which is e huge deal for me.
Where is everyone else in their cycle?
