i have been BFing since leyla was born but have been told i have to give her 3oz of formula 3 times a day, i was using the ready made stuff cos i thought it wouldnt last long and she could be fully BF again but im still having to give her it so have bought some of the powder, i dont have the faintest idea where to even start so wondered if u lovely ladies could give me some tips, how to make it, best time to make it (altogether or one at a time) what to do if i go out etc, as i am far too used to just being able to whip my boobies out lol

ooh should prob mention, were going to my grans house tomorrow so will be on the train for about 4hours

thanks

Caitlyn had alot of bottles at the beginning of her life. We used to do them like this.

I'd make up the bottles for 24 hours (never used one that'd been made for more than 24 hours)

Make them up with hot water (and powder) and then pop them in the washing up bowl full of cold water for 10 minutes to cool down. Pop them straight in the fridge. If I was going out I'd just shove one or two in my changing bag and warm them up when needed. Hope that makes sense x

Hi hun
Sam had formula from birth all i did was make the bottles up as i needed them unless we were going out then i would put some hot water in the bottle and just put the powder in one of the dispensing tommee tippee things that go in side of the bottles and just pore it in wen he was hungery
I made them up of cooled boiled water x

thanks girls, how about if im taking the bottles out with me, how do i keep the water the right temp? im so confused by all this lol, wish i couldve just stuck to premade but we were wasting half of it cos she only needs half of one of those little cartons so if we were out we just had to chuck the rest :s

I just take a bottle of water with me and keep it at room temperature when we're out.

We make the bottles up fresh. I boil the kettle and put half the water into a bottle in the fridge. I then fill up a flask. When she wants it I use the water from the flask. Use half boiled water to mix up the powder, then add the rest from the fridge (so it is at the right temp to drink straight away) I then replace what was in the fridge and feed her. Then start over (filling up flask) I make sure flask is done about an hour before just in case she wants it early and so I am not caught out.

When we go out, we just use cartons of ready made. Much easier!

In the evening i make the next days bottles up with formula and store them in the fridge, then just heat them as required :)

i put 6 bottles of cooled boiled water in the fridge and then warm it up and add the powder when he wants it...if im going out i make up a fresh bottle and by the time he wants it its the right temp

i do mine in the evening (its been the morning the past couple of days cos i was too lazy in the eve lol!). put boiling water in the bottles, add the powder, in the sink til they're cool, then in the fridge.

if i'm going out i either put one from the fridge in the bag if we're not going to be out long, or put boiling water in just before we go out and it should be cool enough to drink when she's ready, just adding the powder when needed. remember its cows milk so it will go off if just left out.

do you have a cool bag you can put them in?? so much easier to just get your boobies out isnt it!!xx

i do the following - at night sterilise and make up bottles with just the boiled water and leave them on the side.

when maddi wants/needs one i add formula and heat by popping it in a jug of hot water. if out i use this to carry the powder: https://www.mothercare.com/Avent-Mo...ing=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44556031&mcb=core and this to heat: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisher-Price-Bottle-Warming-Vacuum/dp/B000H5V52U

I make my bottles up the night before too then just pop them in the fridge. If I'm going out I heat the bottle up before I leave the house. I usually heat it up so that its too hot (like 2 mins in the microwave instead of 1) then I have a heat bag thing I store it in. They keep them hot for about 2-3 hours. Then its usually perfect temp for her. If the bottle will be given to her longer than 2-3 hours away I won't heat it, but will heat it while I'm out - but I still use the bag thing but it keeps it cold instead for when I'm ready for it.

you can store ready made in the fridge in the carton or separate into 2 bottles pop one in the fridge for next time can store for 24 hrs.

i mke my bottles up with hot water and pop in the fridge till i need them this is how many people have done it for many yrs, i've done it this way for 14 yrs, always make them up with hot water this kills bacteria in the powder wether its hot water from a flask on the go using a dispenser or from the kettle and store in fridge, or from the kettle and cool under the tap,

going out:- i take one out the fridge put in a bottle cool bag take a flask fisher price do a good one then heat as i need it. but mostly take ready made stuff.

at night:- i take a bottle up from the fridge and sandwich it between to cool packs out the freezer pop it in the bottle warmer.
