Like have a shower, go outside for a smoke and do house work with a baby around? Just general stuff...

My grandparents live across the street and I feel like I'm relying on them too much to look after Isaac while I do things. They say they don't mind watching him while I do things, but I feel like I'm taking advantage of them because every time I so much as want to go out for a cigarette I have to get my grandfather to come over and watch him.

Even when he's asleep, he wont sleep in the bedroom on his own... he has to sleep on the sofa next to me until I go to bed. If I put him in his cot with the baby monitor on, if he wakes up he screams and screams because he's not used to being alone.

So yeah, anyone have any advice please? =/

I take my daughter with me whilst i shower, steam cant do them any harm :) I strap her in her chair.. Or i get her off to sleep then go in the shower... I do it all whilst she's asleep :) It's a lot better xxx

I used to wait til Chloe and Jaycee were in bed to shower.. I used to do most of it at nap times or when they were down for the night.. Or on the days OH had them when we were apart.. Its hard but you make ways around things!

i was wondering how i was gonna do things when lo is born as well.
i figured things like showering nd housework can be done when he's sleeping.
but goin for a cigarette is gonna be out the question for me... as much as i would love to be able to start back up again when he's here!
i don't live near anyone i know AND live on the 2nd floor nd obv wouldn't smoke around lo... so can't really leave him while i go outside for a cig... plus i don't think ur meant to hold baby for 30 mins after a cig.
bad times!
nd i know i'll be craving a cig more than ever when i'm stressed out nd tired!!

If I need a shower I'll just take my son into the bathroom with me. For things like tidying/cleaning I'll either wait until he's napping or just put him in his bouncer so he can watch me. I keep his pram in the kitchen and talk to him while I'm doing dishes etc..

Thanks for the tips. =]

For some reason I found it really easy to do all these things when he was younger. Maybe it was because I could just strap him into his chair while I did stuff, but now he's crawling and cruising and stuff he's never happy to be strapped into a chair anymore. And on top of that he doesn't nap much during the day anymore, so I kinda have to wait until night time to do things. =/

i do it all when the little one is sleeping and i get the big one to help me.

otherwise its done when they are at nursery or when they are in bed at nightime.

i dont smoke during the day only at night when they are in bed asleep so thats how i manage that one lol

If you have a shower over a bath get a bath seat, fill the bath up and pop him in there while you shower.
Your shower and his bath sorted

Neferet, any chance you're a fan of the house of night series??

And naps is when i do most things, but in the beginning days it was dreadful as you never knew when she was going to wake up or start screaming. So i would take her into the bathroom with me, but she'd get bored after a few minutes and start screaming, was dreadful!! My sister would come over sometimes just so i could have a peaceful bath! Lol.

it's very difficult! When my LO was your LOs age, I used to only shower when he was asleep or bring him in with me. By the time he was maybe a year old I used to bring him, and loads of toys upstairs and he'd play while I was doing my stuff. And then I started just leaving him downstairs while I showered. Others will think it's awful, but I removed like everything out of the front room - only his toys, the tv and the sofa were left there. and the TV was attached to the wall! So it does get easier.

As for housework, I just used to try and get on top of it when I didn't have LO and had a few spare hours (very rarely) but then I'd keep on top of it so it didn't get into a state where I felt like it needed a few hours of work again!

In all honesty I don't have a clue lol most of the time i bring him with me everywhere or he has to be alone for a min while i run to the toilet. Im moving atm and am somehow just about managing to wallpaper/paint and look after him though it's hard and tiring lol

Of course! :) (just had to supress the urge to try and convince you it was my real name)

The taking him into the bathroom with me thing is a great idea, although I'd be scared in case seeing me naked completely traumatised him or something lol. :P Although yeah, in all seriousness I think I'll look in to getting one of those bath seat thingythings.

I think I need to get one of those baby cage thingys...

Liam doesnt like being left on his own and def wont sleep in his crib so i've started getting him to sleep in his buggy so i can get a few things done or do what i want for a bit. For having a cig i eithier put baby tv on and run out the front and watch him through the window or he comes outside with me in his bumbo depending on the weather! Im getting a walker soon hopefully he will go in that and can follow me around the room whilst i get the housework done. I was dying for a wee earlier and had to take him with me i sat him on the floor by the door he thought me going for a wee was hilarious bless him!

I always take Niamh into the loo with me :haha:

Also, when I'm having a shower I stick her in the door way where I can see her in her high chair with a slice of toast.
I don't smoke but house work I stick her in her door bouncer, high chair, buggy or just let her cruise around the cupboards while I wash up. Hoovering is the hard one as she hates it. So I have to be really cruel. Stick her in her cot, distact her, run and hoover as quick as possible while I get a bit of hoovering done!!

Holly goes where I go, so she plays on the bathroom floor whilst I shower (although she spends the whole time banging on the shower screen trying to get me to let her in!). Same with doing make up, getting dressed etc - she just crawls/wobbly toddles around. I have a stair gate upstairs and down, and have pretty much babyproofed everything that needs to be so often just leave her exploring.

In the last month or so she has become much better at amusing herself - she will happily sit and play with her blocks and toy box and doesn't really pay too much attention to what I'm doing.

I have a cheeky cigarette or two in the garden once she is in bed. Smoking during the daytime is not an option for me with her around, I don't want her coming into contact with it iykwim.

Housework, I keep on top of the kitchen during the day whilst she is eating. Although I cheat and have a cleaner who comes once a week, and she does everything else.
