How do you pronounce Naomi?

nye oh mee
for me i grew up with a girl called naomi and thats how every one in my school pronounced it

Interesting! Looks like it's pretty even so far. Although it appears more people from outside the UK say Nye-Oh-Mee, which correlates with my experiences with my little one.

The reason I ask is that I seem to be constantly correcting people (we say it Nay-Oh-Mee), and this is the only way I'd heard it used before. It really surprised me that so many people say Nye-Oh-Mee.

My aunt lives in Australia and she said that over there it is just about always Nye-Oh-Mee.

I don't really mind what people say initially but it does bug me a little when people still pronounce it the wrong way (for us) after being told many, many times NAY!

For those that say NYE, are you in the UK or elsewhere?

Thanks everyone. Keep the votes coming too.

It's a case of either or either iykwim lol. Whichever way you prefer - there's no right way or wrong way to pronounce it

nai :) whereas liam says "nye"

surely if it was nye-o-mee, it would have an "i" before the o?

...tom-ay-toes... tom-ah-toes...

Nay-oh-mee

Niomi is who i would spell the pronunciation Nye-oh-mee

xxx

this is my little "half sister"s name

we prounounce it Nye-oo-mee Ni for short

spelt Naomi

its because the silent a and o make an I sound. Something to do with Latin i think:)

a good friend of mine is named Naomi and we pronounce it Nye-oh-mi but I think either way is fine. ;-D
