how essential is a monitor for a newborn??

we didn't need it right away but it is definitely an essential now.
we were given a pretty expensive video monitor that is awesome.
we can see him moving and hear him, we can even talk to him over the monitor.
he has been sleeping in his own room since he was like 2 months so, obviously it was needed for us.
if you plan on co-sleeping your probably dont need it

I bought a sound and movement monitor but becoz Lola kicks and thrashes about all night I was too scared she would move off of it and the alarm would keep going off giving me a heart attack so that was a waste of money in the end xx

To date iv only used mine a few times. When Junior came home I had his crib in the living room when I wasn't in the bedroom and he still sleeps next 2 me in his crib I leave my room and livingroom doors open when he go s 2 bed any wee peep I can hear. I plan on using them more when he go s in2 hos own room xx
