Hiya my names Veronique and i'm 22 (young i know) and i've been TTC number 1 for 8 months so far.
i was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 17 so i knew i would have problems TTC i need to have my family finshed by the time i'm 30 due to hip problems.

How long did you wait before going to the doctors for help? and how long did you have to wait for treatment on NHS?
And is there anything i could do to help my case? i've been taking my morning temp and started using OPK's i've found out my luteal phase is only 10-11 days average.

any help would be great!
Thank you :)

I am from the States so we do not have NHS. I had been NTNP for four years. I decided to seriously give it a go for about six months and nothing happened. So I am now under doctors care. I know the usual is 12 months of trying but if you need to get pregnant now, you should seek help. It may take a while to regulate your cycle due to PCOS. Can I ask what kind of hip problem you have? I broke my hip when I was 16 and my mom swears that is an underlying cause for my infertility, but I am not sold on that.:nope:
:dust:

Hi hun.
The Doctors will not refer someone of your age for any fertility investigations unless u have been ttc for 2yrs or more. It is not deemed as a issue intill that stage. Then they would investigate as to why u are not pregnant. It takes a average fertile couple 9-12mths to conceive though, so i would not be worrying yet ;-) xxx

Thank you for the replies :) two years seems like a long time i'll just have to be patient and *try* not to let it get to me.

Hope - i have hip dysplasia in my left hip but am going to need a full hip replacement by the time im 30. my consultant wanted me to get the family over and done with so there wouldnt be any stress on the new hip when i get it done :) i don't think that it would have affected your fertility breaking your hip unless when you had the accident there was some trauma to your womb ect, very unlikely though.

Hi Sevita,
Just thought I would add my experience. I am 28 and have been ttc for 8 months. I had a scan last year which showed that I have cysts but I am borderline as to whether I have the syndrome or just PCO. Anyway, I went to the dr after 6 months to discuss the PCO in further detail so that I understood it in relation to ttc. I was told at the time that I wouldn't be referred until we had been ttc for at least 12 months. I then had to go back to the dr a month or so later for a different reason and the subject came up again. The Dr I saw told me that I had been misinformed about the 12 month ttc, and that he would be happy to refer me on to a clinic after about 7 months of trying, if nothing had happened at all.
To cut a long story short, the original Dr I saw had actually taken advice and had referred me after my appointment with her. I got a letter last week and the appointment was for the middle of August. Typically we are on holiday then and so have had to move it to the beginning of Sept!
Sorry for the waffle but I just wanted to let you know that you may not have to wait 2 years at all. Of course we may get tested and they may say that the cysts are not causing any issues, in which case we will just have to be patient and keep trying. My feeling is that I would like to know whether there are any issues, so that if there are we haven't waited another 12 months or so by ttc naturally before we look for help.
Good luck hun xx

I'm only 20 hun :hugs:

We went after 12 months, this was around March / April.
So far we have had a sperm analysis for OH.
I have only had one appointment, one blood test and one ultrasound scan so don't expect things to move too fast :nope:

I would say go after 12 months you probably will take longer to conceieve due to your PCOS . . .
OR they may see you earlier due to PCOS  lol

If you were diagnosed already with PCOS, I would not hesitate to see a doctor to receive advice and/or help on conceiving. It wouldn't be a 'waste' of time per se to keep trying naturally, but if you aren't getting regular periods then you should be receiving help to regulate them regardless of how long you have been trying to conceive. It sounds like you may need help with your progesterone and/or you are not ovulating fully.

I actually went after 6 months but said we'd been trying a year. This is cheeky but it's helped down the line as we're getting stuff quicker.

Thank you for the replies :) two years seems like a long time i'll just have to be patient and *try* not to let it get to me.

do what Trixie did, just lie, there's no way they can control it

personally i wanted to go after 14 cycles but then i was pregnant, so i thought all was fine after all.
turned out to be ectopic... 3 months after that i went back to gp saying how
i was thinking it was taking quite long and he agreed, said we'd do IUI.

right before the IUI we went to fertility clinic (was in may) for 2nd opinion,
lap and dye showed IVF was going to be my best bet, almost starting that!!!!

don't know how the NHS works etc, we have a different system

Hi there, I'm 23 and we went to see the Dr after 11 months but told them we'd been trying for 12months which I think is about the average before they refer you. Luckily our Dr has been really supportive, however the consultant at the hospital told us we were very lucky to be refered as we are only young (oh is 25). I do think it depends on your Dr hun x Good luck x

Thank you for all your replies and support. The only problem with lying is the fact that we went to the doctors for a checkup so we were prepared for ttc due to the hip problem, so my docs know when we started ttc. This is my 8th cycle i think ill book an appointment with the docs and see if i can start pushing them a little bit or at least show were still trying so they have it on there records.

They probably will have it on record - they record pretty much everything I say at my Dr.

I'm wondering the same thing as you though. I've been TTC for 11 cycles now - just got AF on cycle 11. I'm 26 and so is my husband. We had a chemical in January. I went to dr about something else and she said to come back in September when it will have been 12 months. I don't have PCOS as far as I know and have regular 31 day ish cycles. I'm just really sad and confused as to why it hasn't happened. We're both young and healthy and supposedly in our reproductive prime. I'm worried that there's something wrong with one or both of us that means we can't conceive. I want to go to the doctors this month whilst it's the summer hols (I'm a teacher) as it would be easier, but I'm not sure she'd see me early. I just want to get the ball rolling. :(

Our dr knows when we started TTC too as I was having problems after I stopped taking the pill. We're at 13 months now though and went to see the Dr on Thursday last week.

He has sent off for an SA test for DH but said an appt could take a couple of months.

Today I had my Day 3 bloods taken and have an appt for Day 21 bloods later this month. Then I need to see the Dr for the results.

We're in Bristol and have been told that we can't be referred to the fertility clinic until we've been TTC for two years (I'm 33 and DH is 32).

I know I'm ovulating as I've been charting, but my AF is really light and only lasts a couple of days so that worries me a little. I'm interested to see what my Day 21 results show for my progesterone levels.

I'm 20 and got refered after 12 months?

My OH and i had only been trying for 8 months when we was referred. I have PCOS and went to the docs to discuss before trying to discuss preparing myself and my body for trying to conceive with PCOS and she said to come back in 6 months if we hadn't conceived by then. We went after 8 and she referred me without hesitation.
I think it depends on how nice your DR is. Mine is ace and very supportive x
