how long did it take your lo's to regain birth weight?

Lauren was 8lb 4oz born, dropped to 7lb 15oz at 5 days, was up to 8lb on day 10 & on day 15 was 8lb 6oz. So she hardly lost anything but took a while to put it back on & has always gained slowly, never putting on more than 4oz a week since.

she is now up to 8lb 10oz, the midwife has discharged us and the health visitor is calling out again on monday to weigh her. hopefully kaitlin will be birth weight and beyond by then and wont need referred to docs x

Took lo 5 weeks. We worried a lot. At that point I was sent to a lactation consoltant. Who gave me great advice after learning some tips from her lo started gaining weight. Some babies just take longer and sometimes we have to experiment with different tricks to make sure they are getting enough milk

just to update.. i got to the point where my nipples were bleeding and was dreading every feed..so i switched to formula. Kaitlin weighed in this morning at 9lb which makes up for the guilt i felt at stopping breastfeeding. for me, feeding my baby blood was the stopping point. thanks ladies for all the replies xo

Have you tried nipple sheilds? your breastfeeding isn't over if u dont want it to be, u have options. But if ur nipples hurt that much it makes me question a tongue/lip tie, or bad latch.

I had to make that difficult decision too I am glad your little girl is gaining weight. Do you have a pump? I decided to EP for my son, which is time consuming but made me feel less guilty for not BFing him. In the end a happy healthy baby is what we all want!

My LO was 7lb 13oz at birth, 7lb 8oz at discharge 2 days later, then at first doctors appt 4 days after birth was 7lb 14oz.

i tried nipple sheilds etc and also tried pumping for 24hours to give my nipples a break but i really wanted to ebf. it was bad latch, shr wasnt taking enough boob in her mouth and i tried several positions and the midwife came out several times to work on it. my right nipple isnt healing properly now so i probably have to go get it looked at. x

kaitlin will be 2weeks tomorrow.. she was 8lb 15oz at birth, dropped down to 8lb 6oz and weighed in this morning at 8lb 8oz. the midwife wont discharge me from their care until she regains birth weight so now having visits from her and the health visitor.
anyone have similar experience and how long did it take your lo to get their weight up? x

What a beautiful baby! Try not to worry too much. I had to stay in hospital for 5 days because my daughter was a slow gainer. She wasn't back at birth weight until she was 3 1/2 weeks old but everything turned out fine for us.
