How long did you have to wait before you were prescribed clomid? Did you have to wait a full year before the doctor would help?

I stopped bc 7 months ago and was just prescribed provera to see if that would give me a withdrawal bleed, which it did. Ive had blood work done and ultrasounds done and multiple exams all saying that everything is "normal" I am just not ovulating. I just left the doctors this morning and she prescribed me more provera to take every 4-6 weeks so that I have a withdrawal bleed and told me to just keep trying until we hit the one year mark.

I feel like we cant really "try" when I know I am not ovulating so it is very frusterating.

Since many of you have been trying for much longer then I have, how long did you have to wait until they would discuss other options? Anyone have any advice for me and these nextg 5 months before I hit the one year mark?

I only managed to get Clomid privately. In Sussex a GP can't prescribe Clomid, it's got to be a gynaecologist/fertility specialist. And that first referral on the NHS can take months... NHS started helping us once it's been a year.

I'm not sure you shud take provera so often. It does just bring on period but does nothing for ovulation. It's actually bit like the Pill. It also gives fake periods.

I really hope you get Clomid soon

Thank you Maria for your response!

my general doctor reffered me to the OBGYN which is who I saw today and I questioned why she said to take provera so often too. I asked "if provera doesnt help ovulation then what is the point in taking provera every 4-6 weeks" Her answer, if I understood correctly, was because if I wait too long to have a period then the lining will get "old" and if I were to ovulate it wouldnt "stick" and I wouldnt get pregnant. She said she prescribes Provera every 3 months for people who dont have a menstrual cycle but arent trying to concieve and then monthly for those who are trying to concieve... it doesnt make any sense to me though.

Does that make any sense to any of you about what I was told?

Was anyone else prescribed Provera monthly without anything else?

I'm not sure really what to suggest other than asking her straight up would Clomid be something I could use? Before ttc I went to my OB and he told us if in 6 months nothing then come back & not wait for the year. In those 6 months I did opk and had an idea of how long my cycles were & when I o (I did o) so he suspected it was DH sperm and went ahead and told me to take clomid while we got the SA for DH.

I usually take a list with me to my FS office and ask everything I can think of. Hey no shame I wanna b sure I get everything answered!!!

Best of luck!!!

Yeah, Id ask her straight about Clomid.

I don't agree about what she told you about Provera - it's quite an outdated opinion.
When during your cycle the hormones are working properly the lining starts growing in line with the maturing follicle. And then grown even more straight after ovulation to prepare for implantation.
If you don't get regular periods and don't ovulate your lining simply doesn't grow. If you were to suddenyl ovulate it would be new, fresh lining anyway.

I have heard about opinions that you should have a "bleed" every 3 months to avoid cancer but again that seems to have been wrong too.

Hey hun I got my clomid 12 months after first seeing the Fertility specialist, we had been NTNP for 3 years before this! However I had to lose weight to get it as apparently it works better if your BMI is below 35... Well I have lost the weight and my cycles are now around 34 days and this month I have detected my surge on its own!!! If I dont get my BFP then I will start Clomid next cycle, also have been booked in for an HSG to see if the tubes are blocked etc. Hope you get some answers soon hunny xxx
