Hi everyone

I'm starting my new job next week, it's nothing elaborate, just at o2 the phone shop. I'm just wondering how long you have to work somewhere before you're entitled to any maternity leave? It's a full time position and it starts off as temporary although he said it will turn into a permanent position quickly depending on if i like it and pick it up reasonably fast. Does age or anything have an impact on maternity pay?

Thanks:)

Basically, you can fall pregnant after the first period after starting a job and be entitled to maternity leave, so long as you work up to and through week 25 of pregnancy, then you can take mat leave from week 29. I believe you also need to earn more than £109 a week. Some companies have an enhanced scheme, my company pays this out if you have been there for more than a year when the 25th week passes.

Mines the same as marine, I get more pay if I've been there a year before the 25th week, and more again if I've been there 2 years by the 25th week. You should have a manual or contract which will have your individual companies maternity policies in. I've just got a new job and e maternity policy was in the main contract that I had to sign

Just to add in the first part of the reply I mean you would be entitled to statutory maternity pay, which is 90% wages at 6 weeks, then 33 weeks of £135 a week. You can take a further 3 months off unpaid and have your job or similar guaranteed.

Okay so basically if I work up until 29 weeks i'm entitled to maternity pay is that right? :) thanks ladies.
