How long from rocking on hands & knees to crawling?

Yesterday lo started getting up on his hands and knees and doing a couple rocks before falling. He will do this for hours, he seems to love it! How long until i should expect him to start crawling?? I wasn't prepared for this so I need to get the house cleaned and baby proofed before he's mobile!

I think it really depends on the baby. For some babies rocking translates directly to crawling within a short span of time; for others rocking is just kind of an interesting activity that doesn't have much to do with mobility.

My LO rocked a bit off and on for a couple months before she actually started crawling but it didn't really help her learn to crawl. In her case, the important developmental precursors were commando crawling and then learning to sit up from lying down. She's been crawling for almost 4 months now and she still likes to rock sometimes - I think it's just fun to do!

My son rocked at 5 months and crawled at 6 months, so 1 month for mine!

LO crawled about two weeks after rocking on all fours.

Mine was rocking back and forth for forever it felt like! At the very least a month before he started going.

I actually don't remember mine rocking very much, if at all. He would occasionally get on all fours but wouldn't rock per se. The big thing for me (as bananaz said) was going from laying down to sitting. After he mastered that he crawled!

Oh yes, that too. He was going from laying down to sitting up and did that for about a week/week and a half before crawling!

Ok,thanks ladies! Seems like I could have a good amount of time to get everything ready. Hes not getting into sitting position by himself so when that starts happening is when i'll worry.

Alice has been doing it for a couple of weeks now so I wondered to. She also bunny hops her back legs forward but hasn't figured moving her hands till today when she moved her hands.

Now she just needs to put it all together. Lol. She hasn't gone from lying to sitting yet but she sits up perfectly and has been for about a month.

Mine has been rocking for a few days now, but has been going up on hands and knees for a little over a week. She pulls herself around though and can get to whatever she wants. It's been exhausting. She's surprisingly fast!
