we sterilise and put boiled water into bottles in one go and put them in the fridge so we don't have to boil water and faff around each time H wants feeding and we were advised to do this by the midwife.

He has 5oz at a time so we have 6 big 9oz avent bottles that we use but also have 3, 4oz bottles that we put in the fridge too but don't always use (just have as a back up in case he needs water or a bit more feed when sick)

We're wondering how long can we leave the smaller bottles in the fridge for before we should empty them if not used and re-do?

We do something similar - but we only put half the water in the fridge so at feed time we add the other half of fresh boiled water to get the perfect bottle temperature.

I don't keep water longer than 24 hours but it is more likely to be 12 - 18 hours. I make up two batches a day but my LO is on 5 feeds in 24 hours so is a lot more predictble now!

I make them up similar altho I dont put the bottles in the fridge, I leave them on the side as it's quicker to heat them up. I dont leave them for any longer than 24 hours but I make up 5 feeds at a time and she usually has 6 a day so they're not usually sat there for the full 24 hours.

I just wanted to say thankyou as me n OH discussed it and we decided this was a great idea:thumbup: and have now changed our method of doing bottles thanx to you. :hugs:

You're very welcome hun, we find this method just so much easier and I know there are a good few of us on here that do it the same :)
Its so much quicker heating up a bottle from room temp compared with one from the fridge
As I say, I dont keep the water any longer than 24 hours tho and I make sure the bottles arent in direct sunlight, extreme temp changes etc :)

If thats how you are choosing to make your bottles I wouldn't leave the water any longer than 24 hrs - I know that keeping your bottles in a fridge after sterilisation is better than leaving them on the side as bacteria growth is greatly reduced in the fridge :)
I make mine up with powder (so that the water is above 70 degrees to kill any bugs in powder) and leave in the fridge :)

I too fill bottles up with around 2.5oz of water and keep in fridge and add freshly boiled water to 5or 6oz and add formula I have 6bottles and at moment he is having 6bottles again in 24hrs so not in the fridge longer than 24hrs

doh, why didnt i think of this? thanks for the ideas girls

I don't put the bottles in the fridge either and just leave the bottles on the side, but after 24 hours they get tipped out and re-steriliesed.
