How long until I can have a bath?

Hi ladies I had an EMCS on Tues evening and would love a relaxing soak in the bath but not sure how long I have to wait?

I think people will differ on this...

I got told to wait at least 4 weeks, mainly due to the risk when you get out of the bath with the stitching. To be honest I waited until my 6 week check up and then had one, although I'm more of a shower than a bath lady!

I had one on day 6 when my stitch was taken out! I asked the midwife and she said it was fine just not to use soap or fragranced bubbles. She said i could use lavender oil but i used a little bit of baby bubbles. xxxx

Yes some hospitals use dissolvable stitches. I had one continuous stitch on the outside and only dissolvable stitches internally. x

I was stapled, and told 6 weeks. I had my staples removed after 9 days, everything looks healed up but I am still waiting. I miss my nightly baths!!!

Well this is weird! My DD was born at 10.39pm. I had a shower the morning after - my dressing was water proof and was removed later that evening.

The day after this I asked the midwives if I could have a bath and they said yes? I had a lovely long soak in the hospital bath with Johnson's baby bath bubbles whilst my sister looked after DD??

It differs so much from hospital to hospital and to individual. Do what is right for your body, listen to the advice from your care giver's, but more importantly, you know your body, your healing, and your mind, so have a bath when you feel ready.

I want to know this too! we only have a bath as we only moved into our house just over a year ago and had better things to buy than a shower (and then to get it fitted) and i am in a bath every night... i might just sneak to my mums house for a shower every day or two if i really have to xx
