Just wondering how many blood test and scan do we need . i had 1 blood test at the 1st appnt. when i was 5 weeks. and 1 internal scan because i was bleeding, but i want to know how many time we usually need. My in-law said i should have blood test every month but i don't think it's necessary. The doc. told me i can have 2-3 times, so what about the scan?

i got bloods taken at my first appointment, i also get more taken at around 16 weeks. I only get 1 scan :( which is today :) (obviously unless there are any probs then i assume they would do more)

I give month and urine most months when I see my doc. I am being treated in Switzerland.

Doesnt the blood test depend on if you've already had certain vaccines or diseases? taxoplasmosis?
I've not had it see..

You have blood tests in the uk at your first appointment, at 16 weeks if you want the triple test and again at 30 weeks to check iron levels ect. Obviously they'll test more often if they feel they need to. You normally only get 2 scans, a dating scan around 12 weeks (don't know if you'd have this as you've already had an internal though) and the anomoly scan at around 20 weeks.

I had an earlier scan too so never got the 12 week scan.

They check your urine every time you go.

I had blood tests at every visit to the midwife, just because ive got an underactive thyroid. U usually only have two scans unless there are any problems, i had a third one at 32 weeks cos my placenta was low lying.

:headspin:Well, the internal scan was the first scan i had because i was bleeding and i was 12 weeks then. i guess the next one will be when you check your baby gender.

When I go for any appointment, I have to take a wee sample with me.

The only blood tests I had were at 16 weeks. It was only one needle, but there were about 4 samples taken. They were HIV, blood group, sickle cell anemia and the triple test which is optional.

Then Ive had 2 routine scans, one at 12 weeks and one at 22 weeks. I also had one at 11, but it wasnt a routine one. They did a bloodtest and an internal check then too.

I think it pretty much varies where you go, but my mum said hers were more or less the same as what she had :)

I had one blood test, to confirm the pregnancy, check for immunity against certain viruses etc and have not been told of any others that I have to have? I'm hoping that there won't be any more, I hate having blood drawn. I have to do a urine test at every appointment as well, to test my glucose levels and protein levels. I had one scan at 13 weeks and will have another soon, and as far as I know (unless something is wrong) that will be it. It varies widely from country to country!

Where I am they send you to do a blood test after your very first appointment. I usually have 7 vials taken from me to check my thyroid levels, check blood type, and to check for various std diseases including HIV.

We also only have one scan here.

i got my 1st blood test at 10 weeks, then i had the triple blood test at 16 weeks , which inciedntly came back positive and cxaused me the most amount of worry so i had to have an amniocentisis which came back that the baby was healthy, so i worried for nothing, alot of the triple tests come back as false results and its sooooooooooo unrelyable, i definatly wouldnt have it again, i will just have an amnio instead in the future. then there is another blood test at 24 weeks, which is the o'sullivans test and this screens for diabetes, you will have a blood test, then have to drink some sweet stuff then wait an hour then have another blood test. i dont think there are any more after this, but i could be wrong.
dont worry about the triple test, soo many women have false results, it doesnt mean anything what results you get, negative or positive. xxxxx

oh and iv ahd 2 sacns so far, one at 16 weeks then 1 at 18 weeks as i ahd to have an amnio, iv got my 3rd routine one tomorrow, i will be 21 weeks, then i get one at 34 weeks and 1 just before i give birth, i live in spain, so things might be different here! i had no internal scans x

I've only had my blood taken once which was at 16 weeks which tested for sickle cell, HIV, etc.
Also had 2 mandatory NHS scans for development (6 + 20 weeks) and then a private sexing scan.
Believe me if I could afford to have a private scan once a week I would :p
