Hello
For those ladies that are going back to work are you going back full time or part time? And if you are going back full-time did you request to go back part-time but have your request rejected? The reason I ask is that I know my work are not very flexible so I might have to go back full time and was wondering how many other ladies are in the same boat.

As far as I know they have to allow you to change your work hours if you have children? At least that's what my work say but I presumed it was for everyone. I'm going back 2 days, between 12 and 16 hours till I start university xx

From the Direct.gov website: "Under the law your employer must seriously consider any application you make, and only reject it if there are good business reasons for doing so. You have the right to ask for flexible working - not the right to have it."

My OH doesn't work, so I've been back full time since 9 weeks. Never requested part time because the bills need paying :D

I'm a supply teacher so I can pretty much dictate my own availability. The only issue at the moment is with schools having just started back, I'm unlikely to get calls for work for the first month or so.

I haven't voted cos I don't know what i'm doing yet, but my boss said I can go back on whatever terms I like really! :D Trouble is I don't know when I want to go back, let alone what hours. I'm tempted to go back in Dec so we can have a more comfortable xmas, but I don't want to leave lo just yet either! Argggh!

Would have rather 2 days but as a teacher I'll end up doing loads of work at home so I'd rather get paid for the 3 days!!!

I've gone back 3 days per week and DH has dropped to 4 days per week. He was the first man in his company to request flexible working - they were very surprised by the request but also forward thinking and accommodating.

Jenstar is right - although there is the right to ask for flexible working, there is no right to receive it. If the company can give a good business reason not to do so then they are within their rights to say no.

im going back part time, they were very happy for me to do so im very lucky. TBH i wasnt doing very much before i went on maternity leave, i think my post was only really part time anyway, i have siad i will go back to full time after 2 months of part time but will jsut see how it goes when i start back!

I requested to go back 3 days a week and after much debate it was accepted ;)

I was made redundant during my pregnancy :( Luckily they offered me another job and made me part time. So not my choice but am going back for 20 hours a week.

I work full time because I earn the most so my hubby got to be the one who went part time to look after Daisy. He works 3 hours each evening 6 - 9 and all day Sunday.

I will be going back to work full-time (5 days a week) once my year is up. I go back July 25, 2011...

I never asked to go back part-time or anything. In an ideal world I would LOVE to be a stay at home mom...but it's not financially do-able for us. We own our own house, have 2 cars, a bit of debt to pay off, 2 cats and a baby.

I think going back to work will give me a healthy balance in life anyways...so at least I would have some serious adult interaction and not be around babies 24/7. But who knows...in a few years that may all change *LOL*

I'm not going back to work - I was made redundant in March & we are going to try and survive once my Maternity Pay Stops x

I've requested 3 days a week. Put my letter in this week. So fingers crossed they'll let me have it. They've made lots of people redundant recently so i know they're looking to cut back.

I'm working 3 days a week but that's still 34.5hrs per week, I only dropped one shift but it's classified as part time. Ive been lucky that I've also been given set days which means I've been able to get childcare sorted.

I'm hoping to go back 3 days a week. My paid maternity ends at the end of November and then I think I have some AL to take. Does anyone know when I have to request flexible working?

I started back to work one day a week last week. In a month this will go up to two, then in another month it goes up to three for a further six months. Then next March when she is 9 months old I go back full-time. However reality has come crashing down and I'm considering putting in a request for permanent part-time working in March. I'm hoping they will let me do four days and one of those days at home.

With my work I needed to give notice of my return 8 weeks before I was actually going to so I sorted out going back 3 days per week before to that. probably each company has a different policy for it.

i'm doing slightly longer days so i'm working 3.5 days in 3 which means i'll still get paid 72% of my pay rather than 60% for 3 days. I figured it was worth it because I had to pay for LO to go into nursery form 8-6 so i may as well work all that time and get to spend those two other days with her.

isnt childcare expensive!

Your work HAVE to consider your request by law, if you can prove that your work can be done in a different amount of time, and that it isn't going to affect the company that much then they have to offer you flexible working hun. Have a look on the work and pensions website
