Hi Ladies,

Just looking for a little advise, LO has majorly gone off his milk feeds. Always has a bottle in the morning and one at night ( last feed) , i stil BF through the night if he wakes but as my milk is starting to dry up im sure this is more of a comfort. I try to give him at least 2 more bottles during the day but he rarely finishes them, He has 3 meals a day but just doesnt seem interested in his milk unless its bed time or first thing. Just wondered what your LO's are having and do you think this amount of milk feeds are enough ??

Thank you xx

Hi hun. Omar has been taking 3 bottles since he was 6.5 mnths. At this age they need 18-21 oz with 3 meals. If ur LO takes less u can always offer dairy (yoghurt or cheese) to make up for the dropped oz. Omar is not keen on his bottles since he was 5 mnths. His intake vaires between 12-18. for the past 2 nights he's been asking for more at bedtime. He used to go for 6 oz at bedtime but for 2 nights he took 8-9 oz. Tonight he only took 6 oz at bedtime & another 2x5 oz bottles so 16 oz. xx

How much milk does he take when he feeds, how many oz? And is he drinking anything else to keep him hydrated? I think the recommendation is around 20oz of milk for when they are on solids.

The way i see it your LO will only have whatever milk they want. My LO has never been a big milk drinker and at 8 months she was on 3 bottles of 7oz in the morn 1oz in the afternoon then 3oz before bed, so at 9 months i dropped the afternoon one and gave one in the morn and one at bed 7oz and 4-6oz. I know this isnt alot and i worried like hell. But speaking to 2 HVS they put my mind at rest, they know their body and what they need :) They said as long as my LO was having a varied diet with dairy, protein etc then it should be fine. They also mentioned getting vitamin drops if i got worried. As long as your LO seems fine i wouldnt worry hun x

Not that I pay any attention to them, but the guidelines on the formula packs recommend that, at 4 months old, my LO be on 35oz per day. Up until last week she was taking 15oz. This week she's been taking 20-23oz, so still not average, but more than before. I spoke to the HV about it and they said that if she seems happy and content, and is still gaining weight (which she is, she's in the 50th centile), they were happy with her intake; and my LO isn't getting any nutrition from anywhere else, because she's not yet weaning.

From what I can understand, your LO is supposed to eventually drop feeds, so I would imagine that if he's happy and gaining weight and otherwise healthy, then he would be fine. Obviously you should discuss it with your HV if you're concerned

Thank you so much for the replies, He is def still gaining weight and is happy and still filling his nappy regulaly. He ussually has 180ml ( 6.5oz) each feed but its the day ones that he ussually leaves a couple of oz's. Ive treid giving him a little water or juice but hes not really over keen but i still give it to him as he likes holding the cup :) Thanks again for the reassurances!!
