I went for my LOs health check yesterday. Everything was fine until she asked me how many ounces of milk he has.
He currently has 4 7oz bottles so totalling 28oz. She told me he should be having half of that and to cut two bottles out. Thing is I have always checked if he was having the right amount and sites say between 24-32 ounces a day so what he is having is perfect. Her suggested 14oz is way out!
What would you do and how much does your LO have? Xx

My LO is currently 11 months. My health visitor told me at his 8 month check that he should start to be on 16-18 ounces each day so I'm doing two 8-and-a-half bottles. With the way my baby is now I don't think I could get anymore down him because he's also filling up on meals, but when he was 2 and 3 months old I remember giving him literally double what was recommended because he was that hungry and crying for it. So right now yes I'm following the health visitor's guidelines because LO is allowing it and is very happy with it but every baby is different and there have been times when I struggled to force my baby onto less milk so felt I should actually give him what he wanted at the time. At 4 months old I remember a while where he randomly started refusing milk and I had the opposite problem altogether!! So you could always try to drop some bottles and see how it goes, you might be pleasantly surprised that he can actually go without and maybe have a bit more food at mealtimes as a result. On the label of hipp organic baby milk bottles and a few other brands that I've read for our age group, it says that a baby should be having 500ml a day which is basically 18 ounces. Because of this, and a completely different hv I met at another centre also saying the exact same thing to me, I think they're right. xx

My LO has three 6oz bottles and occasionally one more 4oz. She doesn't always finish them though so probably 18oz on average.

My HV told me (NZ guidelines) that when they switch to cow's milk, they need a minimum of 500mls (17oz iirc) a day as well as lots of dairy foods. I personally wouldn't worry if I was you, he's only having a small amount more than 'normal' and some babies are just hungry! Just make sure he's getting plenty of solids and he'll likely drop a bottle soon :)

LO only has 2 bottles a day now. One in the morning and one before bed both 9oz so he has 18oz a day

My LO is 10.5 months. She has 3x8oz bottles a day and will take between 21-24oz in total x

My LO has 4 x 8oz bottles, sometimes 3. He has his first at 10.30 when he goes down for a nap then another at 4pm with his second nap then one before bed and one if he wakes up in the night. I don't know how to cut them out!

I don't know what to do :/ if she said to cut out one then I may have tried it but it seems such a big difference to me. He is just over 26lbs so a fairly big baby.
Thing is he has all 28oz, good portions of breakfast, lunch and tea and snacks in between. If he didn't each much solids I would have thought he is filling up on too much milk but he does xx

Same here. I've read a few things online and thinking about watering down his bottles at night more and more until it's just water and he's not interested anymore. I know it's just habit for him and he doesn't need that much but it's hard to take it away!

My LO is on 2 bottles a day, morning and bedtime. She has 8oz per bottle. She doesn't always finish the morning one so what she doesn't finish goes in her cereal aswell as cows milk. She dropped the mid morning bottle at 7 mths and the mid afternoon bottle at 9 mths. She has a snack at these times instead if she wants it but I always offer water regardless.

I aim for 20oz a day in dairy so she gets 16oz in milk and the rest in yogurts, cheese, milky puddings etc, so is easily getting 20 oz if not more a day. By one year old they are supposed to cut right down to 300ml a day in milk and up their solids anyway.

My lo has just cut down from 6 bottles to 5 but is having around 30oz. He's not a massive eater & has always been a milk fan. I wouldn't reduce the amount if it was me, milk is still supposed to be a main source of nutrition for them until they're at least one. If he's happy & eating well then I definitely wouldn't be worried :)

Mine is still taking probably 25 oz a day and eating 3 meals of solids, I guess at her 1 year checkup the dr will advise. But when she's teething she refuses her solids at times
