Hello all,

Just a quick question - how many sections have you had? I have had two - one emergency and one planned. I am unsure if I am able to have a VBAC.
Any advice appreciated

hi. i just had my 3rd c/s my doctor would not allow me to have a vbac tho i have saw woman who have had 4 c/s then gone on to have a natural birth . id speak to you mw abt it :flower:

I have had one emergency c section, one elective section and I am due to have my third c section around the third week of July. I was offered VBAC after my first c section, but wasn't given an option this time xx

I had an emergency c section with my 1st, and had an elective c section with my 2nd (was hoping for a vbac but it never happened) and after my 2nd i was told any future children will be born by c section x

I have had 2 emcs's after long labours. This time round I am planning a home water birth.
Just for information for any UK ladies on this thread, no-one can tell you that you can't have a vbac, regardless of the amount of c-sections, if any of you have been told that then that is incorrect. It is your choice and your choice alone how you birth your baby.

i've only had an emcs but i'm planning a water VBAC for next time! unless there is complications x

I had an emergency section with my first child.. with my second a VBAC with my 3rd a planned section. On my discharge letter from hossy my consultant as requested that section be the method of delivery in any future babies... I had a lot of scar tissue from the first one so they had to do the cut higher up, it was a much longer and more complicated operation 2nd time round...

I would say it maybe depends on how long ago your last section was, which hossy you go to and if you are induced? I guess an induction would put more stress on your scar but if it was successful and done slowly I can't see why you couldn't have a VBAC!

I have had 2 planned sections; 1st due to placenta praevia and the 2nd due to labour not starting by 41 weeks.

I was offered VBAC and decided to give it a go but she just wasn't for coming and although I had really strong braxton hicks, my cervix wasn't even favourable for a sweep!

I have now been advised to have sections for any future births. Whilst I understand that women want to try VBA2+C, I really feel there is a justified reason for medics advising you against.

I work for the NHS and for obvious reasons, a section is more costly and NHS politics then indicate that they would be vouching for the cheaper option if it was appropriate. This is different in private and other type of healthcare systems where hospitals and insurance companies would rather charge/pay for more expensive procedures which make their figures look better (ie a complicated vaginal birth vs a straightforward c-section looks better on paper).

Bottom line is - NHS doctors would not advise c-sections unless they felt it was necessary.

i had an emergency c-section with my daughter and i plan to have a c-section this time round if approved, id love to have a VBAC but im terrified of rupture and id be devastated if it ended in emergency c-section x

This will be my 4th section. My first was a VB. All were planned as a result of my first birth - episiotomy, tearing, broken coccyx, fetal distress.

A Dr will tell you that you should continue to have csections if its deemed too high risk to attempt VBAC. It's your body, but can you tell when your uterus is rupturing ?

My only wish from birth is a live healthy baby and mum. If it takes every form of intervention and help to achieve that, so be it.

I will be having my fourth section this time around. All three sections were emergency. i was told not to have any more children because fourth time will be more risky. i waas desperate to try for a boy so I took this risk but it looks like my last one is also a girl. Feel abit helpless because I won't be able to try again x

I had one emergency c-section due to fever and increase in fetal heart rate. I was told by my midwife that if I were to have a second child, I would be a good candidate for VBAC since I was dilating and my body was able to handle the contractions; however, I have to have 2 years between delivery to minimize risk. Your medical provider will take into account a lot of factors when deciding if you are a good candidate for VBAC, such as reasons for your previous section(s), your medical history, etc.

Hi. My 1st was natural. 2nd emergency section. 3rd elective section. 4th I really wanted vbac but was told no way, so another elective section. 5th was adamant i wanted vbac. My 1st consultant just walked out the room! My 2nd consultant said if that's what i wanted fine. Explained my chance of rupture would be less than 10%. Ended up emergency section as he wasn't a happy bunny! Next time, if there is a next time i will go for section. I think after 4 it would be to risky.

Due to have 5th section in aug, no vbac after 2nd doc wouldnt let me xx

Hiya baby5hopeful, how are you feeling? hope you are ok. Will you be having your section in the second week of august? I feel so nervous as time is getting closer. From tomorrow I have 6 weeks left. Still not sure if I should get sterilised, keep changing my mind, very very confused.

I had three sections and next Wed I am getting a hysterectomy. I was told no VBAC, but I had a 'thin' uterus with lots of scar tissue, but apparently that is common in women who have had sections.

ive had three 3 csections this will be my fourth they dont like you to vbac if you had more than one csection it gets too risky and personally i wouldnt want to its worrying enough without those extra risk x

Had an emcs with my first, and dc wont allow a vbac. No real reason besides the hosp not doing them. My ds is 3. I'm more worried if i opted for vbac, id have to drive an hour away to hosp sith dc that does them, and dont want to risk uterine rupture on the way there.

Although if baby comes before the planned c, I just have to go with it, and prolly have emcs again :(
