This my first child, I know that you bleed for weeks after the baby. I have a planned C-section already I mean the dates not chose but doc and I agreed for mine and babies safety it's the best choice. I'm curious as to how much, how long does the bleeding last? Will I need like adult diapers the bleeding will be so much?

Following this thread, my last baby was a vaginal delivery and I bled quite heavily. This time I'm having a c-section, so I am interested to see if c-section pp bleeding is any different!

If I honest don't remember the bleeding with my DS but I had my DD by elective section nearly 3years ago, the bleeding had subsided by 3weeks. And it was like a heavy period had a few big clots (sorry tmi) but that was pretty much it.

Both of my c sections (one emergency one planned) I bled for 6 weeks. The one I had with Amelia - planned - I bled more on than off for nearly 4 months, but I think that was hormonal!

Everyone is different, but count on at least a few weeks. The first week, maybe two will be heavy, small clots but the big clots should only be in the first like two days. The rest of it should be less, like a light period and then spotting. Sometimes it stops for a day or a few days, and then re-starts. It should be less than a vaginal birth because they suction some of it during the section.

You won't need adult diapers, if it's that heavy then something is wrong and you need to go to the hospital. You'll need pads (tampons are not okay to use right after delivery, no matter what type), the big size with wings, and for the really heavy days right after, my hospital always provided really humongous ones. They also provided mesh underpants to wear instead of using (and therefore ruining) my own.

Awesome thanks so much! I just wanted to know what to expect I will just go with those thick pads!

I bled for almost 7 weeks with my first. With my second, most of the bleeding happened in the first 9 days.

I bled for 4 weeks but it was very light. I was back to using normal pads after a week. The midwife said that they do a bit of a clean up during the c-section so there isn't as much to come away. Not sure if that's true or the case for everyone but I was shocked at how little I bled.

I actually bled longer after my section than what i did after 2 vaginal births. I bled for 10 LONG weeks.

I had an emergency section 19 months ago as. I bled for 5 weeks and then it started up again for another week!

Yikes! Oh well guess i'll find out! Being summer I was hoping it would just be 3-4 weeks but it's not like I will be getting the pool or anything LOL.

I plan to take full advantage of my huge belly and the pool before baby arrives!

I've had two CS. My first with ds I bled for almost 9 weeks but it was like a very light period. The first week was the heaviest and honestly it still wasn't that bad. With my second I bled for 6 weeks and the experience was pretty much the same. Nothing to bad to complain about.

with my first daughter I was able to deliver vaginaly and only bled for two and a half weeks.

I don't remember exactly but i think I was on and off for 11-12 weeks. Not heavy or anything, but still. It can go on for a while. Everyone's different, hopefully yours ends sooner!

You should be fine with just overnight pads. I bled for 9 weeks with DD and just shy of 6 with DS.

I bleed quite a lot ended up back on day 10 because I was bleeding to much had to have a op in the end to contract my uturses back down because it still thorght I was in labour that why I bleed so much xxx

Do they give you pitocin after giving birth? My mom said they gave it to her to help contract the uterus back down.

No I wasn't given anything for that, they said it would go back down on it's own. x

No. I've had 2 cesareans, the only medication I had afterwards was pain meds (and Benadryl the first time because of a reaction to a med). They push on your lower stomach a little bit to make sure it's going down (that feels fantastic, btw...) and perhaps if it's not, then they would use Pitocin?

Pitocin should have been added into your drip while being stitched up. It's in my notes both times :-)
