How much certainty in 13w guess at scan?

I was 12w3d, but baby measured 13w1d at my NT scan.

The tech taking measurements looks and says, "I think it's a boy". So then when the doctor comes in, he asks if we want him to take a guess...so of course we said sure! He thinks he saw a penis too, so he guessed boy.

They weren't doing it off the nub theory, they simply based it on seeing something there or not. But I thought at 12-13 weeks all fetuses had a nub?!

Can I go ahead and assume boy, or was it too early for them to guess?

So they guessed on potty shot? I know some places do early gender scans at 13w, but I was under the impression that the genitalia doesn't clearly form into a p or v until 14 weeks so 12-13 was based on nub. At my NT scan (12w3d I think) she showed me the potty shot but was insistent you use the nub at 12-13 weeks. I have seen lots of incorrect guesses on potty shots at 12-13

Do you have a nub shot we could take a look at to have a guess? Potty shots are not reliable until 15-16 weeks so if it was a potty shot I wouldn't bank on it definitely being a boy or girl.

At 12-13 weeks all babies still have a nub. If it's a boy, the hormone is present in the fetus (usually week 13) which makes the nub rise enough to have a pretty accurate guess but it's still not an actual penis and scrotum yet.

Um, it wasn't really a potty shot. They just sort of zoomed into the area and watched baby twirl around and waited to see if they saw something. Lol Real scientific.

Lol! Ummm I guess that's one way to do it... did you get any pics? Like Wish said a side full body view usually shows the nub and people can guess

I'm not sure if this is a nub shot, but this is the best I got from my last scan. In the first picture, I'm pretty sure the thing that looks like a nub sticking pretty upwards, is part of the leg (the foot is right above it).
