I am worried that LO is eating too much! I know a lot of people will be having the complete opposite problem so I apologise now if I come across as moany  I like that she isn't fussy and I'm glad that I don't have a battle at mealtimes, but I am worried that she is getting used to eating a lot and with myself having a lot of weight related anxieties I don't want her to be the same.

Here is what she ate today and this is pretty normal for a day at home:

Bottle first thing in the morning (6/7oz)
Breakfast - half a slice of toast, a handful of dry cheerios and about half a banana
Lunch - Sweet potato mash, chicken, red pepper and courgette. A fruit puree tub, about 5/6 organix goodies crisps and about 3/4 white chocolate buttons. Then she stole some of my toast and a spoonful of beans!
Snack - She had a Nice biscuit which my mum gave her. Then she found a box of rusks so ended up having about half of one of those too. Then she stole some of my mums scone with butter (only a tiny bit, one bite I think!)
Dinner - mashed potato, chicken, carrot, swede, parnsip and gravy. Raspberry yogurt - most of an adult sized tub (she is lactose intolerant so has to have the adult sized ones)
Then she ate more of the organix goodies crisps - about 10.
Bedtime bottle (6/7oz)

Her portion sizes are about normal I think for her age. If I was to put it in a jar it'd probably be about half to three quarters of a stage 3 jar.

She LOVES her food and if she happens to come across packets of buttons or crisps that I have for her in my handbag she HAS to have them, she will not settle until she gets them! If someone else is eating she HAS to have some. If you pick her up in the kitchen she spots food in the fruitbowl or points at the cupboard with biscuits in it :dohh: This morning she even got out a tub of fruit puree from the cupboard and toddled off into the living room with it trying to get the lid off!!

I love that she is a good eater. And apart from the odd unhealthy snack like chocolate and biscuits she does eat healthily, will happily eat any vegetables and is OK at eating fruit (she loves the fruit puree, not so good with whole pieces of fruit). Just worried she might be eating too much?

She does have a little belly and very chunky thighs

Well I found an old post from the 'what did your LO eat today' thread in the weaning section, from when Ruby was 14 months:

B - Shreddies and raisins
L - Slice of toast with tuna and cheese, grilled, pear, few organix cheese puffs
S - Goodies banana and date bar
D - Large helping of homemade steak pie, 3 medium roast potatoes, pear, a Plum oat biscuit, and a handful of raisins

she doesn't eat that much now!!

Must be a Lola thing! My LO eats for England and I cant help but worry shes having too much. A typical day for us is:

First thing - about 5/6 oz milk
Breakfast - either full slice of toast + fruit / bowl of cheerios + fruit / 1 and a half weetabix
Lunch - sandwich made from one slice of bread, some organix crisps/rice cakes/oatcakes, yogurt, and raisens
Mid afternoon she usually has a heinz biscotti
Dinner - whatever we eat, a big portion and she eats the lot. Today was a full roast, piece of beef, mash, carrots ad swede, leeks in cheese sauce, cabbage and pudding and custard for afters!
5oz milk before bed.

I actually think if I let her she would just eat and eat! :haha: Shes a big girl but she doesnt look fat at all. Juse very very tall. Shes on the 99th for height and weighs 1stone 12lbs...
I think we just have to give them the food they need as long as they have a balanced diet and are not overweight I dont see the problem - if they're eating it they must need it  Id feel so guilty cutting down her portion sizes. :flower:

My LO's eating has increased so much recently too. I now just give him his own plate with his own food, fork & spoon and he ploughs away.

Most days he gets 2 breakfasts (!), as he gets something at home and creche!

Today:
B: 1 pancake, 1/4 slice of soda bread, 1 banana
S: humzinger & rich tea biscuit
L: Toddler plate of ravioli & red pesto & grated cheese on top, 1 tomato and handful of grapes
S: yoghurt fruit snack things and 1 rich tea biscuit (only things in my bag!) plus bits of mine & daddy's desserts when we were out.
D: chicken roast - good few bits of chicken, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, carrot & parsip mash followed by lemon crepe pancake.

Plus 8oz of milk this morning and 4oz at bedtime!

This seems like a LOT of food to me, but hes happy and healthy.

Thanks :D

Lola isn't tall at all, she is really small in height. Heighwise she should still be in size 6-9 month trousers but they wouldn't fit round her belly! I would have no idea what her weight is to be honest, maybe I should weigh and see what centile she is on....she was only on the 2nd when she was born ha!

I wouldn't want to cut down her portion sizes, I keep wondering whether to stop her from eating biscuits, chocolate and crisps, but she really enjoys them so I would feel cruel!

I'm going to sound horrible here but sometimes you know when you see chubby schoolkids, I just don't want Lola to be like that, I wouldn't want her getting bullied or anything. I may be thinking too far ahead here! I just want her to have a healthy relationship with food which is why I didn't stop her from eating anything...but now I wonder whether that was a mistake!

I would just keep doing what you are doing! Its fab that she eats so well, at 2/3 this may stop (thats my worry anyway).

I have a really unhealthy relationship with food that stemmed from being a kid. I was never allowed to leave a plate with food on it and I am still like that today. If LO wants to eat, he can; if he doesn't, he doesn't :)

I didnt want Lola to not have any 'treats' either so I tend to just let her have one a day which is usually her biscuit. So if you're worried perhaps just build her treat type foods into her routine so you know what shes having when, instead of a biscuit here and there or because she goes and gets one out of the cupboard - Lola tried this all the time!! :haha:
I dont think you need to worry though, chubby school kids usually have bad diets full of junk food, shes eating a well balanced diet and obviously enjoys her food which can only be a good thing! She will even out in time

Wanna swop LO's suz? Matthew won't cost you much to feed

She sounds fine with what she's eating and from what I've heard they slow down on eating in the next couple of months and don't eat anywhere near as much!
Though I really hope Matthew increases rather than decreases anymore!

Matthew eats so little -

Today -

Breakfast - Offered toast, cereal and a banana ATE two bites of toast small handful of cereal and mushed the banana into a mess.
Snack - Two spoonfuls of yoghurt and chewed on an apple slice
Lunch - No idea as at childminder's and I forgot to ask what he ate
Dinner - A few pea's some chicken and chewed on a baby potato

Plus two 8oz bottles.

That's it.
And he's a big boy weighing about 26-27lb at 14 months!

Im hoping that when he starts walking and running around that his apetite will increase because he can eat and has ate platefuls of food before! Just 98% he barely eats anything!Lol

Bianka is the same - she eats a lot and wants to try everything we eat.

Other than her two bottles a day, she'll typically eat:

B- banana and toast/bagel/cereal for breakfast
L- big bowl of mashed potatoes and vegetables at the creche
S- Big bowl of fruit and cereal
D- some of what we at plus a banana.

If we are out and about, she'll munch on some baby biscuit or bread as well, and sometimes gets a yoghurt in the afternoon. Especially this week, she seems to be constantly starving!

I wouldn't worry about her weight in the future - at this age they have a lot of growing and developing to do, and as Jenny says, she may eat less by the time she is 2 or 3.

I don't give Ruby choc or crisps because amongst other reasons she seems to have a small appetite these days and I don't want her filling up on them. If she had a large appetite I might be a little more relaxed about that!

Suz, we should get Ben and Lola together, they'd have a right fun time eating everything in sight! Bens just like you described Lola, if he sees food he has to have it. A lady on the bus was eating an orange the other day and he kept trying to grab it, she ended up giving him half!

A typical day for Ben is:
7oz bottle
Porridge with fruit, or toast for brekkie
breadstick, fruit, organix crisps as a snack
Sandwich (hes not a fan so only has a few mouthfuls), and then a combination of mini sausages, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, cucumber, cheese etc etc
Afternoon snack is usually a treat, I bought a choccy muffin in costa yesterday, but he ended up wanting some blueberries instead!
Tea was lasagne ands broccoli with a yougart for dessert.
7oz bottle

I read in a magazine that toddlers should have 3 tablespoons of food per meal and I was like OMG Ben eats so ,much more! Hopefully they mneant when hes a bit older if thier intake does decrease!

At that age my little one ate the same but a smaller lunch like cheese on toast or sandwich and the a big hot meal for tea! She is 2 now and her portion is probably bigger but same thing really,
Breakfast- cereal or toast and fruit
Lunch- sandwich crisps biscuit or fruit
Tea- hot meal, pasta, rice meat and veg whatever we have and pudding of rice pudding or yog or custard
Some snacks In middle if we out and about or people are round but she doesn't eat them if it's just us!
Lou
Xxx

Aww hun she sounds fine! A good eater is exactly what you want as they're so energetic at this age! Her diet sounds very similar to Evie's really..any food she can get her hands on, she'll eat!

Evie is also on the short podgy side, she's on the 25th centile for height but in between the 75th and 92nd for weight :haha: She's got a lovely buddha belly and lovely squishable thighs :cloud9:

We've only just recently cut out her afternoon milk feed as the HV said it wasnt necassary with the amount she drinks thru the rest of the day...so this is a typical day's food and milk for Evie ....

8am - 8oz cows milk followed by half a slice of toast
9.30am - Small bowl of porridge and a fromage frais
Sometimes she'll have another half slice of my toast after her breakfast :haha:

She'll then go down for a nap at about 11.30 for an hour to an hour and a half

1.30pm - Jam/cheese/tuna sandwich followed by a piece of fruit
3.30pm - Snack of a handful of Quavers/Skips and an organic biccie/rich tea biccie, sometimes some more fruit
5.30pm - Dinner of meat/fish with potatoes/pasta and plenty of veggies and a yoghurt for pudding

7.30pm -9oz bottle of cows milk

I give her a sippy cup of water and she drinks from this thru out the day with the occasional top up if needed. Her intake of milk on her morning and evening bottles has gone up quite alot since dropping the afternoon one.. before she'd have 6-7oz in the morning, 5-6oz in the afternoon and 6-7oz in the evening.
If we have food, she HAS to have some of it, regardless of wether she's just eaten or not! She'd eat all day if she could lol!

Omar started to eat since 10 days, his routine is :

12:00 pm Breakfast (4 scoops of Milupa 7 grains cereals mixed with 1/2 cup of homemade fresh mandarin/mixed fruits juice) - He doesnt like any other cereals & he doesnt eat fruits. This is the only way I can get him to get a serving or two of fruits, he also eats a cheese stick while eating his cereals

2:00 pm - 5-6 oz cow milk bottle

4:30-5:00 pm Lunch (Main meal): He started to eat 3-4 tbsps of cooked food recently (1-2 servings of veggies, 1 serving of meat & 1/2-1 serving of carbs).

9:00 pm-10:00 pm dinner: 1 small piece of pita bread + 1-2 squares of mild cheddar cheese + 1/4-1/2 banana or an omellete (1/2 egg with veggies w/o cheese)

10:30- 11:00 pm 7 oz toddlers milk then bed

He drink lots of water around 12 oz. Omar is going through a hungry phase as he never went for 3 meals before. He keeps asking for more food at lunch but if I think it's too much I stop offering as he gets sick easily.

He's 27 lbs & 82.5 cms.

Want to swap toddlers? :haha: :flower:

Aidan used to be a great eater, he'd eat anything and at anytime and never used to be fussy and I much preferred that. Now he hardly eats anything & is really fussy at mealtimes. He'll happily eat crisps, milky buttons, fruit sticks just not his meals. I think your LO is eating really well, and as long as she's happy, healthy and well I think that's all that matters. :flower:

They go through phases hun, Omar went through a similar phase after his birthday & it lasted for almost 3 months. He was eating almost nothing other than plain yoghurt, cucumber, & cheese sticks with 2-3 milk feeds. For the past 10 days he went back to a routine of 3 meals & 2 bottles.

Thanks hun :flower: I hope it's just a phase, I managed to get him to eat a mashed potato with some gravy today, and some banana.

Can't wait till I can start making proper little meals for him again!

Just out of interest for those ladies whose toddlers wont eat ... over the last couple of days Evie has been turning her nose up at her food about half way thru ... seems she's bored of us feeding her and wants to do it herself!
She did it tonight, she'd only had a few spoonfuls of her dinner and then kept turning her head away.. so I just gave her the bowl and spoon and let her do it herself.. and she did! She ate the lot after that! :haha:

My daughter lots to eat and I do monitor her eating bc she doesn't know how to say "mommy I'm full" lol. Also I really want her health to be healthy so I do let her have a lot of "healthy snacks"..............

We did BLW but I did hand LO pieces of food or I would place only a few pieces on his tray at a time and if the food was really sloppy, I did help out. He refused all of this a few weeks ago.

Now, he just gets a plate and fork like everybody else and he is much happier. I literally do nothing except hand him his plate. I think he just wanted me to back off tbh!
