My LO has been having 150ml / 5oz bottles since she was about 8 weeks and has recently dropped her feeds. We did try to up her bottles to 180ml / 6oz but she went through a phase a couple of weeks ago of not having even half of the bottle so we put it back down to 150ml so we didnt waste formula. She used to have 8 bottles per day but is now having about 6 bottles in 24 hours and I'm just a bit worried that she doesnt seem to want more in each bottle now that her feeds have dropped.

I read that baby should have approx 2.5 ounces of formula per pound of body weight each day. She was weighed last week and was just over 15lbs so that would mean she should be having about 38oz per day but she is only having a max of 30oz. She is still putting on weight and seems ok but it just seems strange that she would be drinking less now than when she was younger.

Is anyone elses LO the same? How much do they have in 24 hours?

Thanks ladies :)

Hi my LO is nearer 4 months old now but he has had 6 bottles in 24 hrs for a while now. He always used to have about 6 oz a time. Then the past couple of weeks its between 4-7oz a time, just depends? I think now he is going thru another growth spurt as he seems to average about 6-7oz most feeds.

mine's a little older but when she was 3 months she was still on what she has now- 5x 5oz bottles.

i was worried when she dropped a bottle at night that she wasnt making it up by upping her other feeds, but she's growing well and the doctors werent at all concerned when i asked about it.
she sometimes has 3/4oz out of a feed, but now she usually takes all 5. so between 20-25oz in 24hrs.

EDIT: she's in the 25th percentile i think, she's little but so are her parents!!

Thanks :) it just doesn't seem to make sense that she's having less now that when she was smaller but I suppose as long as she's putting on weight it's nothing to worry about. :)

At four months, my lo was eating between 36 oz and 40 oz per day iirc. His pediatrician thought it was too much, and told us to start solids so he would get less b/c he had a huge weight gain b/c of how much he was eating.

I would give your lo's doc a call for peace of mind, but I do think 30 oz is where your lo should be right now. xoxo

Omar was on 4 bottles & he used to sleep through for 12-13 hours without feeds. He was on 5 oz x 3 bottles during the day & 6 oz at bedtime. He never went for more than 24 oz in 24 hours (at 4 months) & he dropped his intake again at 5 months. He was also sufferin from reflux so he used to throw up a lot of milk.

His weight gain was never affected, he was a big baby (12 lbs at 8 weeks & 17 lbs at 4 months)

Elina is 3.5 months has 4 bottles a day, 6 ounces each. She's been on 6 ounces for about a month I think

At 3 months my baby was eating 4-5oz every 3-4 hours.

My son is having 4 x 7oz bottles a day, so 28oz in 24hours. x

ETA - forgot to say, hes just over 15lbs as well :D

I have a big eater and tbh the big eaters are rarer (and more expensive) than the more conservative ones. Eddy has a minimum of 45oz a day! He was weighed at 8 weeks at 15lb 7oz! He has a bottle every 2-3 hours from 7am-9pm!

As long as baby is happy, gaining steadily (not necessarily about the amount, it's the rate that's more important) and enjoying life generally, then you're doing a good job!

my daughter weighs probably 14-15lbs now (at her 2 month check-up, she was 13lbs) and drinks 3-4oz every 2-3 hours, about 28-30oz a day.

reading everyone else's responses, my girl seems to eat frequently. i know all babies are different, but maybe i should try to feed her more at each feeding.

we make 6 5 ounce bottles and he eats anywhere from 3-4.5 ounces and sometimes as little as 2 at a feed :dohh:

He probably gets around 24/25 ounces in 24 hours though
