If they were living in your house, and you paid for all their food, and they worked 4 days a week?

My sister wants to come and au pair for me. She's a qualified nursery assistant, but whats to get out of school and become a nanny/au pair. So she wants to come and look after Niamh for me for a year. I'm not sure how much to offer though? 4 days a week, I was thinking £100 a week? Or is that too little? I'd pay her petrol too, if she was using the car when looking after Niamh.

ummm if you were providing house, food, gas money etc.. I dont think you would have to pay them very much IMO...

You have to write out ALL the costs for a person...

Here a room in a house would be around 400-500 CND... I converted that and in UK funds would be 219UK a month (of course your room rental may be different there).

Plus food, toilet paper, clothes detergent $75CND= $41UK per week

So right there you are looking at $383UK without paying her gas (I dont know how much that is where you are).

TBH... I would likely not pay very much more and I would expect more days of work then just 4...

But its up to you and how much you can afford.

For 4 days a week hon I would think would be ok.I know some full time au pairs who get about £150 a week.
This is a good nanny agency if you wanted to have a look through and see what other people are offering their au pairs https://www.nanny-agency.com/UK-Nannies.cfm

Pay her lots! I'm an ex-au pair so biased ;) but...

I was a live in au pair in Switzerland, worked 5 days per week (from wake-up til bedtime) with 2 kids and all cleaning and cooking and was paid 500 francs per month (at the time just over £200 per month) which was basically slave labour and I found out later against the law. If I was ever in the house at the weekend they'd manage to get me to work then too somehow, so I used to leave Friday and come back Monday morning.

My next job was great, I was looking after 1 boy, generally just week days but I was available at the weekend if needs be and I was paid €1000 per month. At the time I think that was about £750 per month. If I babysat I didn't get extra but that was cool with me because I had such a good relationship with the (single) Mum, it was an amazing experience.

Hiya im an au pair at the minute and i do 4 days and get 100 a week, if i do any extra evenings i get an extra 10pound x oh and that is too look after 4!!!! x

R u going back to work?? Will she be doing all housework etc and caring for your daughter. Did you say how many hours it would be? 25 pounds a day doesn't sound enough to me!

I thinks £100 is reasonable...its disposible income if she's not paying food + rent. Wish i had that much extra to spare!

No, no housework. 4 days a week from about 8am-1pm(ish) as my husband tends to come home after lunch. I'm going back to work at some point in September.

I was an au pair 4 years ago and worked 5 days a week and got €450 a month. My boyfriend was also living with us at the time, so I probably would have made more, but it was his rent as well. I think £100 a week is reasonable. Maybe just think about reviewing it in 3 months or so and see if that's working out? That's awesome that your sister would be your au pair.

Hey Rafwife, I think from the working conditions you've described the pay is correct. Make sure, even though it's family, you do draw up a contract and think of any provisions ie will you pay extra if extra hours are worked, what will the arrangement be if you change your mind and decide you do need help with housework etc.

It sounds perfectly reasonable to me.It's not all day and full time and as you are covering everything else it seems very good.If she feels it's not enough to do things with then cos of the hours you are offering she may be able to get a part time evening job (cleaning,Bar work,Waitressing)

i agree sounds good to me honey, i would def. set up a contract and explain what you expect done and what not :)
