My LO has been fully BF since birth but I would like to start introducing formula during the day and just BF her morning and night.

I gave her her first bottle today and she took it brilliantly! I was all ready for the refusal and crying etc... but she just downed it..

And that brings me to my question..... I gave her a ready made carton - 7oz - and she drained it in about 5 minutes..

Obviously as I've been BF I have no idea how much she has been drinking so though 7oz sounded about right.

But if she drained it, should I be giving her more than that?? Or will she take different amounts at each feed? She didn't cry for more after the bottle, and has settled to sleep.

I will only be giving her 1 bottle a day for about 3 weeks to give my boobs a chance to adjust, then start introducing another..

Shall I stick to 7oz bottles and see how she goes?

And another question.... are ready made cartons any different from powder? Is one better than the other for combination feeding??

Sorry for all the questions.. just trying to get my head round it all.... :flower:

if she seems satisfied with that then go with it, i was making up 6 oz that she was drinking all of so i made 7 up a few times but she only ever drank 6 so i just stuck with that. trust yoiur instincts hun, i'm sure she would let you know if she was still hungry x

If the bottle was completely empty it might be worth making a couple up to the next size to see what she does. If you don't offer a bit more how will you know if she wants it? With formula there is often some wasted - it's annoying but something you will get used to!

The cartons contain preservatives, and that should be the only difference to the powder. If you put the two side by side they look slightly different because of that. I think it's rare that a baby will refuse one or the other, but I'm sure it can happen. Powder works out a lot cheaper to use regularly though.
