My little girl was born 11pm o 21st oct and didnt have her 1st feed till about 3pm next day, she wouldnt take anything and wouldnt stay awake..Now she feeds every 4-6 hours and has about 3 ozs, does that sound too long to go without a bottle ? she so well behaved and doesnt cry.

i was told that at tht age the feeds shudnt be anymore than 3-4hrs apart. i was told i shud wake my lo every 3hrs to feed wen i went from BF to FF when he was a week old and he was only takin 3oz but tht was due to him havin feedin problems at the start, due to not latchin on correctly, so maybe tht advice was just for me but even now he's 5 weeks old he hardly ever goes past 4 hrs without a feed except at nite he lasts about 5-6hrs and he's takin between 5-7oz now.

personally id say yes. Try feeding her every 3-4hours. 2-3oz. But every baby is different. My baby only took 1oz every 3hours for the first 2weeks, but he was born early weighing 5lb 12oz and just wanting to sleep! X

Had midwife over and due to her being sick and greedy we were told to take her feed down to 2oz every 3-4 hours during day and then not to worry about waking her at nigh because if she is hungry she will wake up and let us know. But we have to make sure she has her 2ozs every 3-4 hours...Since that she not been sick once. She sleeps alot though which i guesse is normal for being just under 2days old. x

sorry to break into your thread but i also need help. My baby was also born on 21st oct. He was birn at 7.30am, had a quick breastfeed straight after, then again at 3pm. He then would not latch on again and did not feed again until 10.30am on 22nd when i tried a bottle. He now is drinking formula and any of the small amount i can express but only drinks 15ml at a time and would quite happily go 5 hours between feeds. i am currently waking him up at the first sign that he will drink anything eg opening and closing of his mouth. feeding any earlier and he will not take it. Is he just still so sleepy that he does not feel hungry and this will change. He is getting easier to feed but so slowly. I have the midwife around again tomorrow but any help from practising mums would be appreciated.

Sorry once again for breaking into the original thread.

Sounds horrible but my baby just wanted to sleep too and we had to 'force feed' him every 3hrs! He would take a suck or 2, then fall asleep so we would strip off an item of his clothing to wake him and he would take tiny bit more, we would keep going taking everything off except his nappy, it was a nightmare but eventually he started waking for feeds and taking more, he has never been a big drinker and now at 5months he is having 5 5oz bottles a day. Feel free to pm me if you wanna know anymore, instead of us hijacking this thread! Lol x

I have now had to take her down to 2oz due to her being sic on 3ozs (miss piggy) now she wakes every 3 hours to feed 2 ozs and then falls back to sleep but does have a few awake times where she just stares into my eyes..Im just happy she feeding ok now and more awake x

She may have been sleepy if you had some pain relief during labour, which might explain why she's more awake now :)
xx

she now back up to 3oz every 3 hours and spends upto 1hr 30min awake sometimes. No complaints there but she seems to stay awake over an hour at about 4am lol x

Aliyah is now 3 months and taking 5-6oz every 3 hours x

I wouldn't worry too much- Abby hardly fed at all for the first 48 hrs- she was too tired from the labour and drugs and was born with mucous on her run which meant she thought she was full. Everytime we tried to feed her (as I was also told not to leave her more than 4 hrs) she projectile vomited whatever she'd taken. The nice community midwife said not to worry- she'll let you know when she's ready and boy did she!!
