How often should I pump?

I am terrified of giving myself engorged breasts again. Day 3 when my milk came in was just unbearable agony and if it happens again I think I will crack and end up switching to formula

My midwife said that after a feed I could pump what's left in that breast.

But I've also heard things like pumping maybe twice a day and feeding from one breast and pumping the other.

i have no idea what is the right thing to do?

You need to pump everytime you give your LO a bottle, and aim for a total of around 10 feeds/pumpings a day. If you aren't getting enough when expressing, you need to continue pumping for 5 minutes after the milk has stopped flowing and that way it will signal your body to produce milk.
