How old is too old for stroller/pram?

^^Very true vintage. My mother used a stroller for much longer than normal (especially considering back in the day, the earlier they walked, the "better" the mother), nobody knew she had a congenital hip defect, it's not like she could just run after me if she had to - especially if we did something stupid like run in front of a car.

Yes, even a young mom that appears fit could have a physical issue. I didn't use the rein things with my older son, but now that I've experienced parenthood, if this baby is a "runner", it may come to that!

Yep my mom was only 24 when she had me :)

I've thought about reigns too but I have such a hard time with it, I know they are more common in the UK what I've read but here... I dunno. LOL. But whatever works.

The first time I saw them was when I was very young and working in a department store. I was horrified! A child on a leash! :haha: But what on earth did I know! Parenthood changes everything! I don't see them very often anymore. The last time I saw them was on twin toddlers. I just smiled at the parents. :winkwink:

Twin toddlers oh dear!!

3 years or 15kg is what is recommended. Its only tested and passed by standards untill that weight.
Certain pushchairs do go a little higher :) each to their own. Personally my Lo will be out of a pushchair at 3.

I think it depends when the child learns to walk. My LO started at 11 months so right now at 15 months she very sturdy on her feet and can walk for hours. However at this age she doesn't walk in the right direction! I would think by 2-2.5 she will be old enough to stay close to me when we are out and we will ditch the buggy.

I think it depends. I used to judge, I don't anymore after having a LO of my own. I remember being 5 and being in a stroller at Disney World, they would walk around for 12+ hours a day, there's no way I would have had the stamina to keep up. Even if I did, I would have been a terror to deal with! I don't blame anyone for using them in circumstances like that, I wouldn't want to carry around a 5 year old.

That said.. I'll try to get my LO to walk as much as he can, if he gets fussy I'll pull out the stroller. I'll take him to playgrounds and parks all the time to make sure he gets enough exercise though. I do think that 5-6 should be a maximum age, and that's used very sparingly and in situations where the child absolutely can't continuously be up and about all day. I'll probably start leaving the stroller in the car when he's about 3 though, and only use if necessary.

Ideally I'd love to have Xanthe out of it by 2, 2 and a half, however this is my first baby so I'm totally clueless and inexperienced.

Sorry, OT...but I love the look of your baby's name but unsure how it is pronounced!

They still have kids in pushchairs at 5/6 years old here cos then the parent gets to travel on the bus for free :haha: (cos they get in at the middle doors with pushchairs/prams and if they then have to walk up to the front to pay it'll get all confused and crowded in the bus and slow things down)

Sophie is 2.5 and likes to walk whenever she gets the chance but I still mostly use the pushchair. If I'm walking to town with her I always use the pushchair because it's over a mile, but if DH and I drive to town on the weekend and we're just going to park there and go round the shops, we don't take the pushchair.

My nephew is 3.5 and still goes in the buggy for longer walks. He is very tall for his age and people have always thought he's older than he actually is. My friend walked from her mum's house to the beach to meet us last summer and brought the buggy with her in case her little boy got tired on the walk, and he was 5 at the time, but it must be a 4 mile walk each way. He didn't use the buggy at all but I can see why she wanted to take it just in case! xx

I'd like to have DD out of her buggy by three. Yesterday she walked 1km by herself (we had the buggy but wouldn't get in) so it might be possible. But on Friday I saw a girl in a buggy in a school uniform. That, IMHO, is too old. If they don't want to walk or it's too far at that age they could use a bike or scooter.

That is defo to old. I want summer out pram by 3. She rarely goes in it but its there for when shes tired or im in a rush and like i said when we go into blackpool its super busy

My niece will be 5 in October and still occasionally uses a push chair when we go out. It depends where we are going really. My parents take her on holiday with them and they walk for miles. She gets hot, bothered, tired and slows you up as she can't walk as quick. I don't think I will use it ALL the time when Abigail is older but if we are going for a full day out (zoo, theme park, shopping, fair etc) then I'll take it so it's an option. I get a bad back from carrying her and like her to have her own space incase she wants to sleep

:flow:

Whenever mum and child are happy. They aren't hurting/upsetting anyone :) My toddler has just turned 2, he is good a walking but for days/long trips out he goes in his pushchair, he still has a nap in the daytime so its ideal for that.

Xanthe is my name! xxx

Wonderful name, innit?:haha:

DD refuses the pram now. Last pram ride at 27 months lasted 5 minutes before she wanted out and walked for a fair distance and around at outdoor event for 3 hours.
