So if this baby is a girl, we're having problems coming up with a name and it's driving me nuts. With my daughter, we knew the names for either gender going into the gender scan and I'd like that this time too. We have had our boy named picked out for years, so that's not a problem.

One of the girl names we considered for our daughter was Violet. We've loved it since we were like 16 lol, but it felt like it was getting really hipster/popular so we kind of avoided it. But now I'm stuck on it again (because of RPDR haha) and I was looking at the baby names popularity in the US and it seems to be not quite as popular as I'd thought? Also right after Caoimhe was born, I remember we both had a week or so of name regret, wishing we'd used Violet.

I know popularity shouldn't matter but it's very important to me, I grew up with a unique name and now my daughter has a unique name (for an American) and I'd hate to just tack a super popular name onto my kid. There's nothing wrong with doing so, if you love the name or it's a classic or whatever, I just personally have a thing about it.

But Violet is suuuuch a beautiful name. How many Violets have you met or heard of? In the US or elsewhere? My biggest fear is my kid having to be like, Soandso P. because there's 10 of them in one class.

I am in the UK so not sure how relevant this is but the only Violets I know are two ladies on here Sarahbear and Eleanorace. Its a beautiful name and in my opinion not overly popular.

I love Violet, if we have another girl it will most likely be our chosen name. I've never met a Violet here in Canada.

I never heard of another violet about 12 years ago when my sister was born, it boomed in popularity later. However apart from on here ive never met another Violet!

I only know a violet as a middle name, I think it's lovely

I love the name and like Jessy have only ever seen it on this forum (I'm in the UK). It sounds like its a name you love and means a lot to you.

I like the website "Behind the name" because it gives info like popularity and such. and here is Violet: https://www.behindthename.com/name/violet

Ranked #67 in America.

I'm in the UK and according to the charts Violet has got a lot more popular here in the last couple of years, but my DD is Violet and we've only met one other and I think she was about 10.

I dont know any older Violets but in my year 1 class we have 1 and there are 2 in the playschool. I dont think its mega popular x

I love the name Violet - it's gorgeous! It does seem to be (very) quickly moving up the baby name charts! And I predict it will become even more popular in the next few years. Here are the stats from the official US "SSA" baby name site (very handy site!)

Same! It's a lovely name. There's also Viola which is similar but very uncommon.

I don't know or know of a single Violet. :)

I'm in the states and have never personally met a Violet.

I'm UK based too and we hardly ever hear the name violet I think it's a beautiful name :) x

violet is in the top 100 here in the uk, but I've only ever met 2 x

I love the name Violet. I could see myself choosing it if I ever had another daughter.

I live in Canada and only know of 1 Violet, she is 13 years old.

I'm in the UK and I don't know of anyone children outside of BnB with the name Violet. My sister-in-law's grandmother is Violet, and my neice has it as a middle name. It's lovely. I get what you mean about not wanting a name that is super popular - it's one of my things too. I don't want anything that is too out there, or that we've made up...but I look out for names that are known but not overused in the UK, if that makes sense.
