Hi All i have noticed alot of people in here saying that they brought their children loads of toys at previous christmases that never really got played with.

SO i was thinking this little bit of information might help you to choose toys and presents that your children will like.

I had my sons 1 year developmental check today and the HV was telling me he had a trajectory Scheme. Schemas are childrens play patterns and can be used to help decide on the toys and avtivitys that your children will most enjoy.

My son had a trajectory Schema which means he his play pattern is straight lines and looking at the information its totally correct for him - throwing things, drumming/percussion putting water though those cups with holes in the bottom etc.. all straight lines.

It works for us and might work for others too so i thought id share this website with you its not an offical thingy or what not but its got a decent break down for each schemas :) https://www.dorsetforyou.com/357248

Enveloping (covering, surrounding)
Dens
Things in boxes
Envelopes
Dressing up
Wrapping 'presents'

This actually sums Hallie up. I think I might base her presents on this information seeing as she never really plays with the toys she has. She is obsessed with making sure her dollies or herself are covered, if there isn't enough, like no more blankets I often find she has covered her dolls in baby wipe blankets etc amoungst other things. Mental. Thanks!

Interesting. Amelie is trajectory too I think :) although she likes things in other catagories too like dressing up, dolls and books!

Wow thats great thanks.

Its totally true of Alfie, he is trajectory, he loves to play with running water, especially the tap at bath time & he makes archs in his food spilt on the table. everything get hit, banged, & thrown (out the bath, out the cot or just across the room) & he loves to climb.

its quite interest isnt it? i never knew about schemas until yesterday just thought it might be useful as a starting point
