So my 13.5 month old has been waking up A LOT (I counted 7x last night). I will nurse her when she wakes up (we co-sleep) and that has usually worked fine. But what is happening now is she will get tired and use her teeth, and insist on having my nipple in her mouth. So in my sleepy state I will usually start to make noises or move around to let her know that I am uncomfortable and basically want my body back! This used to work most of the time, she would unlatch and go back to sleep. Well lately she will cause a huge fit and get up and whine and attack me basically until I let her nurse again. Or she wants to fall asleep twiddling my nipple and it hurts! and will cause a fit if I don't let her do this. This happens multiple times a night.

I don't want to "night wean" or anything like that (I'm a gentle parent), but I also don't want to allow her to do stuff that causes me pain or irritates me and causes neither of us to sleep.

Any recommendations?

Have you tried Pantley Pulloff? Basically anytime baby isn't actively drinking, remove the nipple, but when they have a fit they are allowed it back, but only till they stop actively drinking again and you repeat this till they realise it's not worth the hassle of on off on off. It isn't always pretty or restful at first as obviously they object. Your baby is old enough to be processing language now so maybe combine it with saying "Ow that hurts Mummy".
