My 20 month old always has a hot dinner in the evening but I would like her to have less daytime snacks and more of a light lunch. I prepare her sarnies, cucumber, tomato and crisps but she will nibble everything else and not eve pick the sandwich up. We go out a lot in mornings and by time we get home she is too tired to eat, and its not like I can take beans or pasta out with me. She still likes quite wet foods, although she will eat toast. She is generally a good eater but we do struggle at lunch time. Any ideas?

We struggle at lunch time too as LO is fussy and won't eat sandwiches.

We just take crackers with butter and cheese if we're out for lunch. If I'm at home I do a cooked meal for lunch and tea as I don't want her having crackers every day.

I would just pick bits that she will eat. She doesn't actually need the bread so don't worry about taking that. Take the cucumber and stuff. Maybe meat? Crackers. Cold pasta? Could you take soup in a thermos flask?

Couscous or Pasta salad (ham, cheese, chopped veg), strips of pitta bread, hard boiled eggs are a favourite too xxx

Fruit bag, pasta or some crackers :)

Well daisy won't eat eggs or cheese unless they are hidden in stuff, for example if i maker her pasta, I crumble a hard boiled egg into the cheese sauce. She used to eat them as a baby but now just spits them out, same with rice! Not sure I fancy being out in public and her spitting out all her food. I have even bought annabel karmel finger food book which has great ideas but I'm wasting a lot of food!
I suppose if I had an.answer to this I'd be very rich!

Madeline will sometimes eat sandwiches, but not often. She usually just picks the filing out. I now just pack slices of ham or chicken instead of putting them on bread, and she wolfs it down. I also take cubes of cheese, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and organix crisps. Then some fruit or a yoghurt for after.

Quiche works well for us, what works best are mini scotch eggs or sausage rolls. Not the healthiest options ever but great for a picnic! We often take these if we are out for lunch as Abigail won't eat sanwhiches either, unless they are jam ones!

Yes daisy will eat I've just unsubscribed to my own thread by mistake, just typing this so it goes back on.

Tom won't eat sandwiches or most picnic type food like tomatoes or cheese. He usually ends up with cream crackers or unslated rice cakes which he loves with either cheese spread or nut butter. I don't take yoghurt out anymore cos he will only do it himself but makes a huge mess so I save them for home.

I'm going to give pasta salad and rice salad a go but I'm not sure he'll go for it - he's not keen on reheated pasta at all.

what about things that are in a sandwhich, such as cheese and veggies, but seperate, and some crackers? I just make sure my kids have the food groups...but, remember, yogurt is protein...and dairy! Any carbs are good...you can get healthy crackers. Kelana eats whole grain with no sugar organic ones and she LOVES them. Fruit. Easy peasy.

What about rather than boring bread- mini bagels/ mini pitta breads or use a cake-cutter to make sandwich into shape of a dog or something??:flower:

I have found that breaking the sandwich up in to little pieces has worked well for us. He doesn't have many teeth though so this just makes is a little easier for him at the moment.

My lo also wont touch bread!! I give her snack a jacks, dairylea dunkers (her current favourite) cold pasta, fruit, slices of ham amd cheese or crackers. It is so hard though, I would love to be able to just make her a sandwich!!!! X x

Ruby will sometimes eat sandwiches but not often. I have to give her a packed lunch at the childminders so this is my specialist subject haha! We do...

- Mini cheese scones (her absolute favourite, especially when I make them in star shapes)
I make a big batch and freeze them.
- Mini sausage rolls (bought from Sainsburys kids range or homemade)
- Mini pitta bread with grated cheese and ham, or tuna mayo
- Hovis Crackers / breadsticks with chunks of cheese
- Organix crisps
- Leftover scotch pancakes (or bought ones) with butter and fruit spread
Just add some fruit if they like it, a yoghurt and/or toddler biscuit :)

Hmmm Evie is the same with sarnies unless it's egg Mayo bu that's quite messy lol

I tend to give her the contents of the sandwich and then breadsticks or some pasta for the carbs.

When out and about I fine a small pot of peas and sweetcorn entertain her for ages

Thanks everyone some really great ideas! Cheese scones and homemade sausage rolls sound good. Today she hardly had any lunch, bit of Apple, a few raisins and a cracker, wouldn't touch the cheese, but then tonight she ate a massive bowl of chicken casserole.

What about a flask of homemade soup with crackers and other bits and bobs?
