My mum keeps saying to me that caitlyn is a lazy baby and should be drinking out of a cup by now. How do i encourage her to drink herself. She gets the cup and sucks, but just doesn't tip it up. I need a non spill cup with a straw in

Helpp

I get the oposite. When people see her drinking out of a cup I get asked "why isn't she having that in bottles?"

firstly caitlyn isnt lazy! my hv said the other day that most toddlers still use a beaker!

anyway... we gave rhys a cup from 1 year. we let him experiment with it.. he took his own time.. it took him a good month or so of persiverence (SP) for him to get the hang of it

caitlyn cant use any type of sippy cup though, i just dont know how to teach her she just has to lift it up a bit and she wont be sucking in air. Bless her.

My mum is a know it all though and likes to say stuff like that. I think she forgets caitlyn ISNT me 'well you were doing x, y and z when YOU were 9 months' yes mother :hissy:

We started giving Aaron a sippy cup at about 5 months (we found that the cheap Tommee Tippee ones are the best). At first he would just get the occasional splash of water in his mouth when he accidently tipped it up. He gradually learned to tip it up a bit but most of it would dribble out of his mouth again. Eventually he learned to seal his lips around the spout, tip it up properly and suck. It took months, but he did learn it in the end. In his case the hardest part was getting him to suck because he'd never had a bottle.

It's just a matter of practice. If you want her to learn, just let her play around with it, no pressure. She'll learn in her own time.

we handed it to Hannah and she played with it for ages, we'd tip it up for her and let her get a bit out but mostly let her play with it.....she eventually just figured it out on her own (of course she still plays with it and now that she knows how to get water out of it by turning it upside down---well it's messy )

Have you though about one like this? they dont need to tip it up. They just have to suck through the straw. You can get these in boots... well ive seen them in most places actually. Oh and they do a purple one.;)

Im guessing youre not meaning these type cups but if you are then you can get these from boots, They are supposed to be difficult to knock over etc.

I've just bought Aaron one of those straw cups but he can't get anything out of it because you have to squeeze the straw in a certain way to open the valve. Even I find it hard to drink from it! :dohh: Might be just the thing for Caitlyn though.

On another note, those Boots cups look great, I haven't seen any like that before. I think I'll try and get some for Aaron.

I was going to suggest that one too, Bethanie had a good Nuby one as well. Bethanie drinks from the cup most of the time (normal cups) and she has done that from about a year or so, but she still likes to drink from sippy cups and won't drink her milk from a normal one.
I think you shouldn't worry about her not drinking out of a cup, im sure she'll do it when shes ready to. Maybe you can offer the cup.. if she doesn't do it, just get her other cup - this is what we did with Bethanie, but 1 day she just accepted the normal cup.

i like the straw idea, might try that with maddi. i was just going to suggest keep offering it to her and she'll get there in the end honey x

I cannot get my son to drink out of a Hard top Sippy cup- He will only drink out of one that looks and feels like a bottle. Any suggestions?

I think baby will do things when it's their time, when they are ready
Lincoln used to sleep on his back and mil said i should lie him on his tummy but i tried and he didn't like it
But one night he just did it himself

i've just started katie with a sippy cup and she's doin well with it. its easier with her tho, cos i just tip it up, but it'll be different with caitlyn cos she's older.

have you tried tipping it up and showing her the milk coming out? might be a recipe for disaster tho...
