How to get vomit off fabric sofas

This morning LO vomited all over the sofa and the cushion, I took the covering off as well as the cushion covering and just used a sponge and fairy liquid to wash it off.

My question is do you think it's a good idea if I put them in them in the washing machine? I'm so paranoid about them forever having the vomit smell plus any ideas on how to remove the smell would help.

Personally I would leave them sitting in a bowl of soapy water for a couple of days so the smell really gets in the fabric and cleans it.

I use pet stain remover on mine. We took 2 rescue kittens in and they were very nervous at first, they were always leaving presents on the sofa for me! I leave the remover on for an hour (its non bleach) then scrub with soapy water
