how wil bf change when LO is weaned?

Just wondered - at the moment LO feeds 3-4 hourly all day and night (has never STTN). I'm hoping to wait til 6 months to wean, and then what? I understand you carry on bf almost as much for a while as they are just tasting, but then what can I expect? I'd rather not give any formula having come this far, so guess I will continue bf until LO can have cow's milk at a year old.
Any advice/knowledge appreciated! x

It depends on your Lo I'd say. Some babies take to food straight away and so may start to feed slightly less, but I think that breastfed babies shouldn't really be dropping feeds for the first few months, as breastmilk is still the most nutritionally balanced food for them till they're 1. 'food under one is just for fun'. I'd say just take it at your LO's pace.

I had no idea that food under one was just for fun! so if people give up bf at 6 months do they replace all those feeds with formula then? I guess I might have to do that when I go back to work at 9 months. x

Yes to replacing feeds with formula. You could always build up a supply of breastmilk in the freezer for when you go back to work.

I agree that food under 12 months is "just for fun" however every baby is different and I am a firm believer in following your baby not the books. My LO was attached to me every 1 to 3 hours (including night time) but once we started weaning, there was no looking back, he LOVED it. I think he would have given up bf with no problems, its only that I keep offering it (he still needs to be bf to sleep but I don't think he drinks much then though)
