I need some help thinking of a boy's name, ladies! How would you pronounce Lucian? Would you pronounce it the same or differently than Lucien?

I'd pronounce them Lou-she-un and Lou-she-en, slightly different but not by much.

When I saw Lucian I thought of Loo-shee-an, but when I saw Lucien I thought of Loo-see-en. No idea why!

Thanks, ladies! That's what I was thinking, even though it's "traditionally" pronounced "lu-shen". I prefer "lu-see-en"!

I pronounce both spellings lu-shen (2-syllables). I know a little boy with that name and that's how they pronounce it.

I love the name Lucian! I would pronounce them the same way.

I would have tried to pronounce it like lucy-in i think i am in the minority maybe its because I am scottish :rofl:

great name though however the you pronounce it

Yes, I love the name, but I don't suppose I'll pick it if lots of people are going to be calling my kid "lu-shen". It sounds like "lotion" to me, and I don't like it anywhere near as much as "lu-see-en".

Both the same: Loo-see-un

I like it. It's not a common name (in the UK, at least) but it's one most people know how to pronounce as there's a famous person with that name, and there has also been a character on TV with that name too. Both pronounced as above. I've never heard it pronounced any other way.

If you like it, don't let other people's pronunciation put you off. You can correct them, or they'll naturally pick up the right pronunciation from you.

I say both Lu-si-en, as it would be said in French. I didn't realize it could be pronounced with a 'sh' noise. I greatly prefer the French pronunciation. Depending on where you live, you might end up constantly correctly ppl on the pronunciation. I really like the name though.

I would pronounce Lucian as "lu-shen" and Lucien as "Lu-see-en". Lucien is a French name and Lu-see-en would be closest to the French way of pronouncing the name properly (at least without an accent). Lucian however is actually a Latin name so they are in actual fact pronounced differently :)

So I prefer the French way, not the Latin way. Got it. Thanks, ladies! :haha:

I know two guys named Lucian and Lucien. This is how they were pronounced.

Lucian = Loo-shun
Lucien = Loo-see-enn (he was French)
