Hi,
I am booked in for an HSG on 28th March, when i will be 11 dpo.
Dr Google tells me that I might be more fertile after this procedure
Does anyone know what the advice is after the HSG - when can we BD?
They are putting me on these tablets - i think antibiotics before and after - Doxycylcin.
Any advice would be much appreciated

thank you

hello ducktales :)

good luck with the hsg :) i had mine last month... they said we could bd as soon as we wanted. i also had antibiotics and also a pain killer. it was absolutely fine, no more painfull than a smear :flower:

Hi.

My HSG was ok as well. I had a great radiographer who completely distracted me by chatting to me throughout.

If I remember correctly (it was back in early December) we weren't allowed to :sex: for a few days after due to the risk of infection.

I just tried my hardest to be relaxed about it and just think of it as a smear test.

My Dr didn't put me on antibiotics and just told me to take 2 advil one hour before. I'll be honest, the pain during the procedure was not fun but it was just a couple of minutes. After, I had some cramps and a little bit of bleeding but that's it. They told me I could BD that night if I wanted but DH was afraid to hurt me so we waited until Saturday (it was done on Wednesday). I don't know how but I had some of the dye leak out for about an hour after BDing. I know it was dye because it was oily and they use an oil based dye so just know that you could leak for a while. Also, it is true that you have a better chance of conceiving for 3 months after the HSG.

Good luck and lots of :dust:

Thanks for all the info on this post. I have my HSG tomorrow morning and I have to start my antibiotics tonight and take my pain killers 2 hours before the procedure. I can't believe that the dye can last in you that long.I will be on day 8 of my cycle. I'm super excited about the fertility aspects. Good luck on yours Ducktales

After my hsg I BD I think 1-2 days after but I was told I could do it anytime I wanted to. I got pregnant that same cycle.
Good luck!

Thank you everyone and good luck today ally baby
Xxx

Good luck Ducktales. I had mine last week. If you can get ahold of something stronger than over the counter pain killers, I would. The pain may be quick, but for me it was VERY unpleasent! I was told I could bd that night, but was recommended to wait until the next day to give my lady bits a rest.

Hoping we (and other recent ladies) are the lucy ones who catch after and HSG! :dust:

Just thought I would pop in and let you know how it went. The pain for me was minimal during the procedure and I only felt a little cramping. 3 hours later and I feel like I have period cramping and I'm doing lots of walking around to see if it will help. My news wasn't so good and one of my tubes are blocked from radiation from my earlier cancer treatment. He said surgery was the only way to fix it but IVF would be the better route to go. At least I know. I see our fertility doc next week to get all the results back so hopefully something will start to happen for us. GL!

I'm sorry to hear that ally baby but hoping now they know they can deal with it for you
Good luck at your fs appointment
Thank you to everyone else, all advice and info is much appreciated
The other good news is that if my hsg is ok then they may consider prescribing me clomid without having to wait until my next appointment in June

I am suprised they booked you for a HSG on 11 dpo. My dr wouldnt even schedule me until the 1st day of AF. They told me they only do them between cd5-cd10.. They dont want to mess with your chance of pregnancy.

They did mine at cd13. The earlier in the cycle the better, but if you are later in the cycle, they tell you to obstain so that they know you aren't preggo and they don't risk moving an embryo outside of the uterus.

i had to phone on day one of AF, and they booked in for 11 dpo and stated no BDing at all until after HSG.
They would have booked later than 11 dpo but would not do if you had BD'd at all

I had my hsg done yesterday and it was painful for me. I am not going to lie i normally can handle it but it was painful for about a few minutes and then it isn't bad. I bled for about 3-4 hours. We :sex: last night and it didn't hurt at all. My tubes were good they said. SO good luck!

I had my second HSG this past October and I guess everyone is different because it was uncomfortable but I can't say that it hurt.
I was also put on antibiotics and then a suppository to prevent a yeast infection after the antibiotics were done.
and yes, I have heard of many stories of girls concieving 1-3 months after the procedure so your chances are good.
good luck! :)

I also started on letrozole this month. go in for my mid cycle u/s:shrug:

Thanks- will take painkillers before and let you know how it goes

I had hsg in jan bd that night. Tubes blocked no pain. I took 2 aleve and was fine no antiobiotics

I feel like the HSG really messed with this cycle. I had mine on 3/12. They say you'll have the dye coming out for a day or 2 but mine lasted over a week. The DR said the everything was perfectly clear and no issues. I was still taking OPK and I had 2 I thought were positive and they came on CD14. I had to go on a trip and so DH and I started BD every other day since I thought I already O'd. Then I started having O symptoms 2-3 days later. FF finally said I O'd on day 17 but Im still having somewhat EWCM. I do not know whats going on. Now I am afraid I missed my chance as we didnt bd the day before or the day after O. Anyone else have anything like this??
